On June 20, the MAG bomb and mine advisory group in Vietnam said that they had safely handled a large bomb discovered at a land mine in Bo Trach commune, Quang Tri province, only about 200m from the Ho Chi Minh road and about 300m from an important highway intersection.
The bomb was discovered by Mr. Nam, a worker at the construction site, while operating an excavator to dig land. Recognizing the level of danger, he immediately reported the incident to the local authorities.
MAG then deployed a handling team to the scene. Through identification, this is an air bomb weighing 227kg, with a destructive radius of about 1km.
MAG's technical team safely collected the bomb and transported it to the disposal site according to regulations.
Representatives of the Military Command of Bo Trach commune said that the soil mine where the bomb was discovered regularly has about 10 workers working and is located near important traffic routes, including Ho Chi Minh Road and the North-South Expressway.
According to MAG, from 2025 to now, the unit has destroyed 2,155 explosives left over from the war in emergency missions reported by the local community, including 12 large bombs.
MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international non-governmental organization engaged in humanitarian activities to search, clear and destroy mines, cluster bombs and unexploded ordnance. MAG has been present in Vietnam since 1999, highly concentrated in central provinces such as Quang Tri.
