According to information from the Lao Cai Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, due to the influence of a low pressure trough passing through the Northern and North Central regions, on the night of August 29 and early morning of August 30, there were showers in Lao Cai province.
Particularly in localities such as Lao Cai city, Bao Thang, Bac Ha, and Bao Yen districts, there was heavy to very heavy rain causing localized flooding in some areas.
Heavy rain affected 76 houses (Lao Cai city 74; Bac Ha 2), of which houses affected <30%: 2 (Bac Ha district); flooded houses damaged household items: 74 houses (Lao Cai city).
In addition, there was 1 household whose positive slope collapsed, causing the wall behind the house to collapse (Group 14, Pom Han ward, Lao Cai city).
In Bao Thang district, heavy rains and floods caused a large landslide on the riverside road from Thai Nien commune to Pho Lu town, completely cutting off traffic.
In Bac Ha, heavy rains and floods caused major landslides at two irrigation works in Nam Luc commune and caused damage to agricultural production.
In Lao Cai city, heavy rain caused flooding on many main roads and streets in the wards of Bac Cuong, Nam Cuong, Bac Lenh, Binh Minh and Pom Han.
In particular, heavy rain flooded many sections of Tran Hung Dao, Tran Phu, Hoang Quoc Viet, and Vo Nguyen Giap avenues.
Lao Cai Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control has directed the People's Committees of districts and communes to respond to natural disasters and minimize possible damage.
At the same time, clear the drainage system, put up warning signs, and do not allow people to pass through flooded areas.
