Nghe An - Widespread prolonged heat has caused electricity demand to increase sharply, with maximum capacity in the province continuously setting new records.

The Department of Industry and Trade of Nghe An province has just issued a document requesting the People's Committees of communes, wards and Nghe An Power Company to strengthen the implementation of electricity saving during the peak dry season of 2026.

According to the Nghe An Department of Industry and Trade, recently, widespread and prolonged hot weather has appeared in the province. This has increased the demand for electricity from people, agencies, units and businesses, especially the demand for cooling equipment.

The total electricity load of the province has therefore increased sharply in both maximum capacity and electricity consumption, putting great pressure on the power system in some areas.

Electricity load continuously sets new peaks

According to electricity system operating data, the maximum capacity in Nghe An province has continuously set new records.

Specifically, on May 25, 2026, the maximum capacity reached 1,245 MW at 9:30 PM. On May 26, 2026, this number increased to 1,251 MW at 10:00 PM. By May 27, 2026, the maximum capacity reached 1,270 MW, the highest level ever in the province.

The current maximum load level is about 10.6% higher than the maximum capacity previously recorded in the summer of 2025, which was 1,148 MW.

Along with that, electricity consumption also increased sharply during the prolonged hot weather. Electricity consumption on May 26, 2026 reached 23.769 million kWh; May 27, 2026 reached 25.206 million kWh, much higher than the normal daily average output.

Faced with the above situation, the Nghe An Department of Industry and Trade believes that it is necessary to synchronously implement solutions to ensure safe and stable operation of the power system, limiting the risk of power grid incidents during the hot weather that continues to occur.

Encourage setting air conditioning from 26 degrees C or higher

The Nghe An Department of Industry and Trade requests agencies, units, and localities to strengthen propaganda, dissemination, and mobilization of officials, civil servants, public employees, laborers, and people to use electricity economically and effectively.

Agencies and offices need to reduce electricity consumption; turn off unnecessary electrical appliances when not in use; use air conditioners reasonably, encourage setting from 26 degrees C or higher combined with using fans; take advantage of natural light and ventilation.

People, agencies, units and businesses are also advised to limit the simultaneous use of many high-capacity electrical appliances during peak hours; prioritize the use of electrical appliances with energy-saving and high-efficiency labels.

For the People's Committees of communes and wards, the Department of Industry and Trade proposed to coordinate with the electricity sector to strengthen propaganda on the grassroots broadcasting system and mass media about the electricity supply situation and measures to use electricity economically and effectively during hot weather.

Localities need to propagate to production and business enterprises in the area to proactively arrange reasonable production plans, limit the simultaneous operation of large electricity consumption devices during peak hours.

At the same time, businesses are encouraged to strengthen inspection and maintenance of internal power systems to use electricity safely, economically and efficiently; invest in and exploit self-produced and self-consumed rooftop solar power sources according to regulations.

The Nghe An Department of Industry and Trade also requested Nghe An Power Company to continue to proactively plan to operate the power system safely and stably; strengthen the inspection of the power grid, and promptly handle risks of incidents.

The electricity industry needs to proactively inform and advise customers to use electricity economically and efficiently and coordinate to quickly handle arising incidents.

Nghe An Department of Industry and Trade requests agencies, units, localities and businesses to seriously implement electricity saving solutions during the peak dry season of 2026.
