On December 20, the Long An Department of Transport announced that it had issued a notice on the dissemination of the time to exchange driver's licenses according to the provisions of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety and continued to extend the time to return driver's licenses.
According to the Long An Department of Transport, recently, the number of people (including people from other localities) coming to the Provincial Public Administration Service Center to exchange their driver's licenses has increased dramatically every day. While the capacity to receive applications at the Provincial Public Administration Service Center is limited, at the same time, the number of driver's license blanks that the Long An Department of Transport planned to print from the beginning of the year has been used up.
One of the reasons for the sudden increase in the number of people coming to change their driving licenses is because of the rumor that from 2025, it will be mandatory to change driving licenses from paper covers to plastic cards (PET cards) or change driving licenses to a new model.
The Long An Department of Transport confirmed that the above rumor is not true. According to the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety, effective from January 1, 2025, there is no requirement for people to change their driving licenses from paper to plastic cards (PET cards) or change their driving licenses to the new model.
According to Tran Thien Truc, Deputy Director of the Long An Department of Transport, driver's licenses issued before January 1, 2025 will continue to be used according to the expiration date stated on the driver's license. People with a limited-term driver's license should carry out the procedure for renewing the driver's license before the expiration date stated on the driver's license to avoid the situation of the driver's license expiring and having to retake the test.
It is recommended that people with unlimited driving licenses choose the appropriate time to change their driving licenses, avoiding the current situation of changing unlimited driving licenses at the end of the year, causing overload for the application receiving department of the Provincial Public Administration Service Center.
It is recommended that in case of a car driving license that is about to expire, the license holder should renew the driving license online at https://dvc4.gplx.gov.vn/p/home/dvc-trang-chu.html to save costs and travel time.
The Department of Transport will continue to process applications for issuance, renewal and re-issuance of driving licenses for citizens, but will temporarily extend the time for returning the results of issuance, renewal and re-issuance of driving licenses for cases that are not really necessary (driving licenses that are still valid, driving licenses with no expiration date). The expected time for issuing and returning driving licenses for the above cases is from February 2025.
The Department continues to organize driving license examinations (new and expired) and extend the time to return results for new driving licenses of all classes that have been examined since November 16, 2024.
Currently, Long An Department of Transport is urgently coordinating with Vietnam Road Administration to continue providing driver's license printing blanks to serve the people.
