On August 9, Dak Peek Commune People's Committee said that, implementing the "Operation 500 Days and Nights", from July 28 to August 6, Dak Peek Commune Military Command organized a review and search for martyrs' remains in the 16/5 village area.
During the implementation process, functional forces excavated and expanded many areas suspected of having martyrs' remains, with a total of 190 working days and a volume of soil and rock excavated for more than 150,000 m3.
As a result, the Military Command of the commune collected 10 sets of martyrs' remains. The sets of remains were taken to the waiting house of the Military Command of the commune for preservation, waiting for the memorial service and burial according to regulations.
At the same time, the remains of martyrs will continue to undergo verification and DNA testing steps.
Currently, in Dak Pek commune, there is 1 martyrs' cemetery, with 220 graves requested for sampling, DNA testing and identification. Sampling is carried out strictly right from the start of implementation.
The search for martyrs' remains in hamlet 16/5 is carried out based on information provided by people and witnesses.
Ms. Y Ngoc - Standing Vice Chairwoman of Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee requested Dak Pek commune to coordinate with neighboring localities to maximize information from people and witnesses; review and zone areas suspected of having martyrs' remains.
The Provincial Military Command strengthened coordination, synergy, searched for original information, and supported Dak Pek commune to organize scientific and effective searches.
Before deploying searches at locations, units must organize thorough bomb and mine clearance, ensuring absolute safety for participating forces.
