Da Bac River, also known as Da Bach River, is about 20km long, running through Quang Yen town, Uong Bi city, Dong Trieu town of Quang Ninh and on the other side is Thuy Nguyen district of Hai Phong. This is a historic river, a branch of Bach Dang River and together with Bach Dang River has created great naval battles in the history of the nation's resistance against foreign invaders.
Currently, with long-term vision planning and large capital sources that have been and continue to be invested in infrastructure on both sides of the Da Bac River, this place is expected to become a new and large growth pole not only for Hai Phong and Quang Ninh .
In addition to Uong Bi of Quang Ninh which is already a city, Thuy Nguyen district of Hai Phong and Dong Trieu and Quang Yen towns of Quang Ninh are also preparing to become cities.
According to the plan, Dong Trieu town, which currently meets the conditions of a provincial city, will become a city by the end of 2024, while Quang Ninh town is expected to become a provincial city by 2025.
Thuy Nguyen District of Hai Phong will not only become a city in 2025, but also become the new administrative center of Hai Phong.
After about 20 years of construction, the Hai Phong City Political - Administrative Center Construction Investment Project (with an investment capital of more than VND 2,831 billion) and the City Conference - Performance Center right next to the Political - Administrative Center (with an investment capital of nearly VND 2,571 billion) have been formed. Hai Phong strives to complete the relocation of the city's administrative center to the north of Cam River, Thuy Nguyen by 2025.
To connect the two banks of the Da Bac River, in July 2024, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh inaugurated Ben Rung Bridge across the Da Bac River, connecting Quang Yen, Quang Ninh with Thuy Nguyen, Hai Phong.
Currently, the two sides are speeding up the implementation of the Lai Xuan Bridge Investment Project and the renovation and expansion of Provincial Road 352, connecting Thuy Nguyen District, Hai Phong and Dong Trieu Town, Quang Ninh across the Da Bac River. The project has a total investment of nearly 1,350 billion VND, mainly from the Hai Phong budget, with the starting point at the intersection with National Highway 10 in Thien Huong Commune, Thuy Nguyen District, Hai Phong and the end point connecting with Provincial Road 333 in Yen Duc Commune, Dong Trieu Town, Quang Ninh Province. It is expected that Lai Xuan Bridge will be officially put into operation by the end of this year.
Meanwhile, in Quang Ninh, Quang Ninh province has been and is continuing to invest heavily in traffic infrastructure projects, the largest of which is the River Road Project, with the starting point connecting to the Ha Long - Hai Phong Expressway in Quang Yen town, running along the Da Bac River through Uong Bi and ending in Dong Trieu.
The project has a total investment of about 9,400 billion, is about 41km long, and has a scale of 10 lanes. This is a key traffic project, expected to be put into use, welcoming the Party Congresses at all levels taking place in 2025.
Together with the bridges connecting the two Da Bac rivers, the riverside road project, when completed, will not only form a regional external traffic route, creating a driving force to promote development for the entire western region of Quang Ninh province, but also connect 4 cities of 2 localities sharing the same river as well as increase the connectivity of the economic triangle of Quang Ninh - Hanoi - Hai Phong, the Red River Delta and the Northern coastal region.
At the same time, the completed route also contributes to exploiting the potential and advantages of land in the area and creating attractiveness to attract investment in the Quang Yen Coastal Economic Zone, covering an area of 13,303 hectares, including industrial parks, urban areas, high-tech zones, seaports... stretching from Quang Yen to Uong Bi city.
