I will pick you up...
At midnight on September 9, the body of Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem was brought by his teammates and family back to the place where he was born and raised - Hamlet 8, Yen My Commune, Yen Mo District, Ninh Binh Province .
Last night, the whole village hardly slept. Waiting for him to return, they were filled with endless grief and sorrow when they saw the young officer's coffin placed in the middle of the dilapidated, difficult house.
It was even more heartbreaking to witness Mr. Nguyen Van Kien - father of Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem and his wife sobbing when welcoming their son home, then being so heartbroken that they could no longer cry. The couple, who had worked hard all their lives to raise their son, now sat there, stunned and in pain, watching their relatives and comrades come to pay their respects to their beloved, strong-willed son.
Despite the pain and loss, Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem's wife had to hold back and give all her respect and love to her newlywed husband.
On her personal page, Ms. H. posted many memories with Captain Nguyen Dinh Khiem, such as the moment when the two of them went to try on wedding dresses together, preparing for the wedding at the end of 2023. Or clips of their daily life, walking around town, traveling together, Ms. H. also carefully posted them in an album to keep.
Notably, in this series of newly posted images, the online community was moved by the status line written by Captain Nguyen Dinh Nghiem in 2018: "When there is a 3-star line, I will give you the wedding ring."
This wish has now come true, but it was too soon. After only being married for nearly a year, Ms. H. and her husband are now separated by life and death.
Before that, Ms. H. also expressed, making many people moved: "In my life, you are the only husband, there will never be a second person. I will go and pick you up."
He left when his family was still in difficulty.
First Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem was born on November 6, 1997 and enlisted in September 2015. His family was very poor. To earn money to raise his children, his father worked as a construction worker and his mother worked hard in the fields. Loving his parents, First Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem tried hard to study and train with the determination to serve in the army.
The family has 4 children, all of whom are studious and well-behaved. Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem has been an excellent student for many years and passed the entrance exam to the Engineering Officer School. He got married at the end of 2023 and was appointed Captain of Company 3, Battalion 1, Engineering Brigade 513, Military Region 3 about a month ago.
Previously, on September 7, while facing storm No. 3, First Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem heroically sacrificed himself when he saw his teammate slipping and a tree was threatening to fall on him, endangering other teammates. He rushed in to help, but the tree fell on him and he fell. His teammates and unit took him to the hospital for emergency treatment, but he did not survive.
The heroic sacrifice of Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem for his compatriots and comrades has deeply moved the online community and local people. Since midnight last night and all day today, many comrades, local leaders, departments and people have come to burn incense to express their condolences and admiration for his heroic sacrifice.
Speaking to Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Van Dinh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Yen Mo district (Ninh Binh) said that the sacrifice of Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem was a great loss for his family, unit and locality. However, the heroic sacrifice of Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem is also a sacred lesson about the spirit of sacrifice for compatriots and comrades of Uncle Ho's soldiers in peacetime.
