Hometown awaits the First Lieutenant who died fighting storm No. 3

On September 8, speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Van Dinh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Yen Mo district (Ninh Binh) said that in recent days, Yen Mo district as well as the whole Ninh Binh province has been working hard to prevent storms, but was very saddened to hear that Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem - an outstanding son of Yen Mo hometown - had sacrificed his life while participating in storm prevention and control with his teammates.

According to Mr. Dinh, as soon as receiving the information, the district leaders directed the People's Committee of Yen My commune, agencies and organizations, and coordinated with relevant agencies to visit, encourage and join hands with the family to arrange the funeral for Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Minh Khiem in the most solemn and thoughtful manner, expressing condolences and respect for the heroic sacrifice of comrade Nguyen Dinh Khiem.

According to Ms. Do Thi Tuyet - Chairman of the People's Committee of Yen My commune, Yen Mo district, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem's ​​family situation is difficult, his father is a construction worker, his mother is a farmer, but Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem has made efforts to study and train to be able to serve in the army.

Ms. Tuyet said that the Party Committee, the government, the people in the commune and the neighbors were very saddened by the news of the death of Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem, but were also very proud of his heroic example of not fearing danger and sacrificing himself to protect his comrades while performing the task of storm prevention. The local government and people are waiting to welcome him back to the love of his homeland and motherland.

On September 8, the authorities of Yen My commune (Yen Mo district, Ninh Binh province) along with organizations and families are preparing to welcome Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem (from village 8, Yen My commune) back to his hometown and organize a funeral according to local customs.

According to Brigade 513 (Military Region 3), implementing the telegrams of the Head of the Military Region Command and the competent agencies on the implementation of response to storm No. 3 (YAGI), the Brigade has directed agencies and units to organize storm prevention and control measures, especially construction units. By 9:00 p.m. on September 6, all response preparations had been completed, the unit had summarized the situation and reported to the Operations Department, Military Region General Staff.

In order to prepare forces, means and materials to participate in local rescue; at the same time, realizing that the storm's developments were increasingly complicated, the system of camps at the construction site (Pat village, Luc Hon commune, Binh Lieu district, Quang Ninh province) was at risk of being unsafe, at 8:00 a.m. on September 7, Major Nguyen Duc Thanh - Battalion Commander of Construction Engineering Battalion 1 deployed Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem - Company Commander of Company 3 to command the forces to prepare materials to be ready to respond to local rescue and to provide additional protection for the camps.

Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem and some officers and soldiers of the unit carried out the above content. After taking the pole, on the way back, seeing his teammate slip, there was a risk of the tree falling and endangering other teammates, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem ignored the danger and rushed in to help but was crushed by the car and the tree and fell. The unit promptly took Senior Lieutenant Khiem to the emergency room at Binh Lieu District General Hospital, Quang Ninh Province. However, due to the severity of his injuries, at about 9:20 a.m. on September 7, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem passed away.

Brigade 513 (Military Region 3) has been coordinating with the family and locality where Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem lives to prepare the most thoughtful conditions for his funeral.
