On August 4, the People's Committee of Bac Gianh commune (Quang Tri province) said that traffic congestion continued to occur on National Highway 1 through Gianh bridge due to vehicle incidents.
At about 1:00 p.m. the same day, a truck was traveling in the North - South direction, when it reached the section south of Gianh Bridge, the tire suddenly exploded.
The car stopped, causing a long traffic jam in the area.
After receiving the report, the authorities were present to coordinate in handling and regulating traffic, minimizing the impact on other vehicles.
Previously, at around 11am on August 3, at Gianh Bridge, a car stalled while traveling, causing traffic congestion at the bridge over the bridge for more than an hour.
As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, Gianh Bridge is a "bottleneck" on National Highway 1 due to frequent traffic congestion. Faced with the above situation, the Ministry of Transport (now the Ministry of Construction) has approved the Gianh Bridge construction project starting at Km624+799 and ending at Km626+901. The bridge is nearly 750m long.
The project road is designed with a roadbed width of 20.5m, including 4 lanes for motor vehicles. The new bridge alone is 12m wide, of which the road surface includes 2 lanes for motor vehicles and 2 lanes for non-motor vehicles. This modern design ensures the ability to serve future traffic. Expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
When completed, the new Gianh Bridge will increase the capacity of the old bridge, reduce the load on the old bridge and make an important contribution to traffic connectivity, promoting the socio-economic development of the area.
