National Highway 1 through Quang Ngai is bumpy, accidents lurk during Tet

VIÊN NGUYỄN |

Near Lunar New Year, many sections of National Highway 1 through Duc Pho town, Quang Ngai province are seriously degraded, causing difficulties and dangers for traffic participants.

As Lunar New Year approaches, National Highway 1A and the bypass through Duc Pho town are still under great pressure from the sharp increase in traffic volume.

Amidst the traffic jams and congestion of the last days of the year, people have to face another concern: the seriously degraded road surface, full of potholes. The bumps and dents on the road surface not only make it difficult to move but also pose a potential danger to other road users.

According to the reporter, the continuous rain for the past 2 months has made the repair work difficult. Temporary patching cannot completely solve the damaged road. When trucks and passenger cars with large tonnage pass by, small gravels are broken off and scattered all over the road, making the unsafe situation even more serious.

Mr. Nguyen Dong Hai, a resident of Pho Van commune, Duc Pho town, expressed his concern: "Driving on National Highway 1A through Pho Khanh commune, I feel like I'm driving through a "maze" of potholes. At night, many people have fallen because of bad roads like this."

In the days leading up to Tet, National Highway 1 has seen a sudden increase in the number of vehicles. However, the current state of the road is seriously degraded, making people worried. Mr. Nguyen Nhat Thanh, a resident of Duc Pho town, said: "I often travel on National Highway 1. The section through Pho Khanh commune and Pho Thanh ward in Duc Pho town is seriously damaged. Although the units have repaired it, less than a week later, the road is as bad as before, making it extremely dangerous to travel!"

Mr. Tran Duy Khanh, Chairman of Pho Khanh Commune People's Committee, said: "The section of National Highway 1A passing through the locality has been seriously damaged many times, greatly affecting the travel of the people. The locality has repeatedly requested competent authorities to handle the problem, but so far, the situation has not improved. The closer to Tet, the more people travel, we are very worried."

While people are worried about this situation, Road Management Area III has issued a notice directing relevant units to repair and fix damaged areas on National Highway 1A, especially the sections passing through Duc Pho town, to ensure smooth traffic during the 2025 Lunar New Year.
