Overloaded landfill, people anxiously waiting for treatment plant
Domestic waste is one of the issues that many Ca Mau voters reflected at recent voter meetings. From urban areas to rural areas, the situation of garbage accumulation and overloaded landfills not only affects aesthetics but also increases concerns about environmental pollution, directly affecting people's lives and production.
In which, Tan Tao landfill (Vinh Loi commune) continues to be a hot spot repeatedly proposed by voters. This is a place to receive domestic waste from Bac Lieu, Hiep Thanh, Vinh Trach wards and Vinh Loi and Hung Hoi communes. After many years of operation, the landfill has fallen into a state of overload, while the main treatment method is still landfilling.

According to voters, the fact that the landfill continues to receive a large amount of garbage every day makes the risk of odor, leachate and environmental pollution increasingly present. People hope that the province will soon have fundamental solutions instead of just handling the situation as it is now.
This issue has been concerned and directed by the People's Committee of Ca Mau province in the past time. The locality has approved T-Tech Vietnam Technology Group Joint Stock Company to invest in a domestic solid waste treatment plant with a capacity of 200 tons/day and night right in the Tan Tao landfill area.
Up to now, the investor has been allocated land and is completing procedures according to regulations to implement the project. The Provincial People's Committee requests the enterprise to accelerate progress, ensuring completion on schedule in order to put the factory into operation soon.

While waiting for the plant to go into operation, the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Bac Lieu Urban Service Center to continue managing Tan Tao landfill, ensuring the collection and treatment of waste according to the correct procedures, strengthening monitoring of treatment activities, regularly inspecting the wastewater leachate collection and treatment system and promptly overcoming arising incidents.
The Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to coordinate with localities to strengthen inspection and supervision of waste collection and treatment at existing landfills, minimizing the risk of environmental pollution while waiting for the project to be completed.
Nearly 24 billion VND for garbage collection
Not only the story of overload at Tan Tao landfill, but also the efficiency of domestic waste collection at the grassroots level is a content that voters are particularly interested in.
According to reports, the cost of garbage collection is currently allocated by area. However, the organization of implementation in some places is not synchronized, and garbage accumulation still occurs, collection is not timely, affecting environmental sanitation.
From that reality, voters proposed that the Provincial People's Committee consider allocating funds directly to each commune so that localities can proactively select collection units and organize implementation in accordance with actual conditions, thereby improving the efficiency of waste management.
According to the People's Committee of Ca Mau province, right from the beginning of 2026, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 458/QD-UBND allocating the first phase of transportation and treatment of domestic solid waste to 64 communes and wards with a total amount of nearly 23.9 billion VND.
The Department of Finance is assigned to review the actual needs of each locality regarding the volume of generated waste, service unit prices, allocated funds, and the remaining shortage to advise the Provincial People's Committee to consider supplementing, ensuring resources for waste collection, transportation and treatment.
In the context that many landfills are overloaded, early putting modern waste treatment projects into operation is considered a long-term solution to reduce pressure on the environment.

The story of domestic waste is almost recommended by voters at every People's Council meeting. Over the years, the province has introduced many solutions, from increasing collection costs to calling for investment in treatment plants. However, when landfills are overloaded while treatment plants have not yet gone into operation, people's concerns about environmental pollution are still there.
