According to information from Tan Son Nhat International Airport (HKQT), the 2026 New Year holiday is expected to be a peak period with a sharp increase in passenger volume. The average passenger volume is forecast to reach 131,000 arrivals/day, an increase of 17% compared to the same period last year. In particular, in the two peak days (January 1 and 4, 2026), the number of passengers may reach 135,000 arrivals and about 786 flights take off and land each day.
The most important change during this holiday is the terminal traffic diversion plan to reduce overload. In which, Passenger Terminal T3 will officially accept and operate all domestic flights of Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, Vasco, Bamboo Airways, Vietravel Airlines and Sun Phu Quoc Airways. Meanwhile, Vietjet Air continues to operate at Terminal T1. The information screen system at both terminals has been interconnected to support passengers in searching.
To improve operational capacity, the Port has promoted the application of biometric identification (Boarding Bio) and completed the signboard system at Terminal T3. The command duty at the Operation Control Center (AOCC), meteorological monitoring and night flight plans are also tightened to proactively respond to all emergency situations or unfavorable weather.
Faced with high traffic pressure, Tan Son Nhat International Airport recommends that passengers be present at the airport 2 hours before departure for domestic flights and 3 hours for international flights. Passengers should prioritize online check-in and wear baggage identification tags to save time.
In addition, people are encouraged to use public transport and limit seeing relatives to reduce congestion in the parking area. The airport also reminds passengers to absolutely comply with safety regulations, and not to perform acts such as sitting on luggage conveyor belts or illegal check-in in the aircraft parking area.
