Promoting the railway system to serve Long Thanh airport
In addition to roads, railway connection is considered a strategic solution to reduce the burden on ground traffic and improve passenger and cargo transport capacity.
For the national railway, the Ministry of Construction is preparing to invest in two projects: the North-South high-speed railway line starting construction at the end of 2026 and completed in 2035 and the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau route.
Ho Chi Minh City also assigned Becamex Corporation to study the cargo railway line combined with passengers from Bau Bang to Cai Mep, to serve the industrial - logistics development of the whole region, expected to start construction in 2027 and be completed before 2035.

Regarding urban railways, Ho Chi Minh City has identified three main corridors directly connecting to Long Thanh airport.
The first route is metro line 2 connecting Ben Thanh - Tham Luong and the section extending to Thu Thiem, then connecting to Long Thanh. The Ben Thanh - Tham Luong section is being implemented with public investment capital, starting on January 15, 2026 and completing in 2030.
The Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem section and the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh route have been approved by the Prime Minister to be adjusted to an urban railway, with Ho Chi Minh City being the investment manager. The city has assigned Truong Hai Group to propose a project under the PPP method, aiming to start construction in 2026 and put into operation in 2030.
The second corridor is metro line No. 6, invested publicly by Ho Chi Minh City, prioritized before the Tan Son Nhat - Phu Huu section to connect directly with the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh route. This route also aims to start construction in 2026 and be completed in 2030.
The third corridor is metro line 1 extending from Suoi Tien to the new Dong Nai Administrative Center and Long Thanh airport. Of which, Ho Chi Minh City will build metro line 6 while Dong Nai will be the competent authority for the metro line extension 1. The goal is to complete the entire corridor by 2030.
