From August 6 to 12, the MS 03 sand mine located on the Hậu River in Nhơn Mỹ Commune, Kế Sách District, which belongs to the territory of the province of Sóc Trăng, has been conducted by the Construction Corporation No. 1 - JSC for trial mining. The mining operation aims to evaluate the actual reserves, depth, and quality of the sand to determine a suitable mining plan.
The MS 03 sand mine was handed over by the People's Committee of Sóc Trăng Province to the Construction Corporation No. 1 - JSC at the end of 2023 to mine under a special mechanism to serve Component 4 of the Investment Project for the Construction of the Châu Đốc - Cần Thơ - Sóc Trăng Highway, Phase 1. The mine has an area of approximately 53ha and a reserve of around 1.1 million cubic meters.
Similarly, the MS 11 sand mine, which is being mined by the Hải Đăng Joint Stock Company, is also located on the Hậu River in Trần Đề Town, Trần Đề District, and An Thạnh Nam Commune, Cù Lao Dung District. The mine has an area of 73.62ha and a reserve of approximately over 1.9 million cubic meters.
On August 7, during a survey of sand mines in the province, Mr. Trần Văn Lâu, Chairman of the People's Committee of Sóc Trăng Province, requested that the investors submit a specific report on the difficulties and obstacles encountered after completing the trial mining, and promptly resolve them. He also reminded the units to mine in accordance with the committed reserves and ensure environmental protection conditions.
The leaders of the People's Committee of Sóc Trăng Province also emphasized that they will work together and direct the prompt resolution of difficulties, creating the maximum conditions for the units to effectively exploit the sand source to provide it in a timely manner for Component 4 of the project.
Earlier, in late June 2024, one river sand mine and one sea sand mine in Sóc Trăng Province were also put into operation to serve the Châu Đốc - Cần Thơ - Sóc Trăng Highway, Phase 1, and the Cần Thơ - Cà Mau Highway.
