Landslide in a section of the dike, the whole hamlet is worried
The first cracks appeared silently after many days of heavy rain. On June 15, people in Hamlet 5, Hau Loc Commune (Tam Binh District, Vinh Long) were shocked when the dike section along Cai Ngang River suddenly collapsed nearly 30 meters, sweeping away the entire concrete road above, leaving a deep frog's jaw. The soil continued to erode day by day, gradually eating into the inside, threatening the fence and house of Mr. Vo Van Tam's household.
Standing on broken ground right in front of his house, Mr. Vo Van Tam (78 years old) could not hide his concern: "Previously, the fence of my house was dozens of meters from the riverbank, and there was a concrete road more than 1 meter wide for people to travel every day. Now it is clean and well-maintained. At night, I listen to every part of the soil sliding into the river without daring to sleep.
Mr. Tam's family once built a solid iron fence to keep the land. But when the soil began to recede close to the foundation, the whole family discussed removing all the iron fence to reduce the weight. "It's a pity, but that would have ruined the whole house. The fence is now no longer a burden but a burden. We had to remove them, hoping to save the house" - Mr. Tam added.
Not only Mr. Tam, many households around the area also live in a state of disrepair. Mr. Pham Van Tu (77 years old), a nearby resident, pointing to the increasingly expanding frog's jaw, said that this dike has been long, the concrete road surface is thin, the whole soil is silted up, and the rain is unbearable. Mr. Tu said that a few days ago, someone was riding a motorbike at night, unknown, the concrete road had collapsed, plunged straight into a frog's jaw, fortunately not seriously injured. But now that there are no more roads, people who want to go have to go around nearly 2km.
The eyes are still on the collapsed dike, Mr. Tu exclaimed: "Now people just hope that the authorities will come to survey, work early to take care of themselves every day. This dike is not only for one house, it also keeps the road, the land, and the meals of the whole village. If we are a little late, our people will suffer a long time".

Commune authorities recommend provincial support
Speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Phu Quang Vinh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Hau Loc commune (Tam Binh district, Vinh Long province) - confirmed that the section of the Cai Ngang river embankment through Hamlet 5 has just experienced a serious landslide, completely washing away nearly 30 meters of the concrete dike surface, creating a deep frog's jaw close to people's houses.
"The landslide developed very quickly, in which Mr. Vo Van Tam's house was located in the most dangerous location. Worryingly, this situation is still expanding" - Mr. Vinh said.
According to the People's Committee of the commune, this dike line, in addition to protecting houses and gardens, is also the main residential road for people in the hamlet.
After the landslide occurred, the authorities advised people not to travel at night through the dangerous area. It is possible to travel on many other routes, although longer, but safe. Because the cost of repairing the problem is beyond the budget of the commune, it can only be monitored and reported. The locality has sent a document to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment requesting that a professional team be sent to survey and find solutions.
"It is known that on June 27, a working group of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment directly went to the landslide area, measured the current status and found solutions to prevent further landslides to ensure the safety of people's property and lives" - Mr. Vinh informed.
