Landslides on the banks of the Ve River, through Phu Lam village, Hanh Thien commune, Nghia Hanh district, Quang Ngai province, are serious, threatening to sweep away the houses of hundreds of households.

According to statistics from the authorities, there are currently 145 households with more than 750 people in the area directly affected by the landslide along the Ve River, passing through Phu Lam village. The lowest area is often flooded 1 meter deep during floods. The landslide poses a safety risk to residential areas, Provincial Road 624 and Phu Lam Market. According to the reporter's records, many households have had to invest money to reinforce many landslides to keep their land and houses from being washed away during the rainy season.

Speaking to reporters, Ms. Vo Thi Chinh in Phu Lam village said that every year during the rainy season, the land is washed away by floodwaters. To protect their house and land, the family had to invest 300 million VND to reinforce against landslides. However, in the long term, the people really hope that the State will invest in building more solid embankments to withstand prolonged floods.

Although the landslide situation is getting more and more serious, not every household in Phu Lam village, Hanh Thien commune has the conditions to invest in anti-landslide funds, and has to accept living in fear of their houses and land being washed away every rainy season.

Sharing with reporters, Mr. Doan Hoa in Phu Lam village confided that he did not know when the State would invest in building embankments to protect people's houses and crops, so despite the difficulties, people still had to spend their own money to buy soil and rocks to fill in landslides, limiting the soil from being washed away during storms.

Realizing that the 1.5km bank of the Ve River in Phu Lam village is increasingly eroding, people have repeatedly petitioned the government to build a dike, but the locality has not yet had the funds to invest.

Speaking to reporters, Ms. Pham Thi Bich Hoa - Chairman of the People's Committee of Hanh Thien Commune said that the erosion of the Ve River bank, through Phu Lam village, is becoming increasingly serious. In fact, people spend money to build temporary embankments to prevent erosion, but it is still only a temporary solution, so people and the government are very worried every time there is a storm or flood.

The landslide area on the banks of the Ve River in Phu Lam village is closely monitored by local authorities, especially during floods, to have a response plan while there is no solid embankment.

According to Mr. Phan Cong Huan - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghia Hanh district, while waiting for the State to allocate funds to build embankments to prevent landslides on the banks of the Ve River, through Phu Lam village, the locality condemns the evacuation of people every time there is a storm. The district will also propose that the province pay attention to allocating funds to build solid embankments to ensure the safety of houses, land... of hundreds of households, so that people can live in peace during each storm season.
