Quang Tri - After the case of transporting and slaughtering 250 tons of sick pigs that were removed, Quang Tri province requested comprehensive rectification of slaughtering control work.

On July 25, leaders of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee confirmed that the Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee has just issued a document requesting to strengthen the management of slaughtering, trading, and trading of animals and animal products in the province.

Accordingly, through inspection and supervision and according to reports from functional agencies, Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee received information that there are still some animal slaughterhouses that have not strictly complied with the provisions of law. Specifically, some facilities operate not in accordance with the scale and capacity approved by competent authorities; have not fully maintained the conditions on veterinary hygiene, food safety, and environmental protection.

In addition, the control of slaughtering, transportation, and business of animals and animal products in some localities is still not strict, posing a risk of arising and spreading animal diseases, affecting community health and the effectiveness and efficiency of state management.

To thoroughly overcome loopholes in management, the Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee requested departments, branches and local authorities to urgently rectify slaughtering control work, strengthen discipline and order in the performance of official duties.

Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee emphasized that localities must organize regular and unscheduled inspections and supervisions of all slaughterhouses; resolutely handle and stop the situation of transporting and consuming animals of unknown origin that do not ensure veterinary hygiene conditions.

In particular, the head of the commune-level government must be fully responsible to the Provincial People's Committee if prolonged and complicated violations occur in the area.

In addition, the Provincial People's Committee directed the Department of Agriculture and Environment to coordinate with the Police and Market Management forces to launch peak periods of inspection and tracing of food origin; strengthen strict control of key traffic routes, wholesale markets and livestock gathering points.

Slaughterhouses operating at unqualified capacity or not meeting veterinary hygiene conditions will be temporarily suspended or suspended immediately. The province also requests localities to urgently consolidate grassroots veterinary forces and gradually eliminate small-scale, spontaneous slaughter points to move towards a centralized slaughtering system.

Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reported on the case of the Economic Police Department of Quang Tri Provincial Police coordinating with professional units to dismantle project 0526H, prosecuting 6 subjects for the act of "Violating food safety regulations". In just a few months, this group purchased and transported from northern provinces to Quang Tri more than 250 tons of pigs infected with African swine fever, brought them to Tay Tri slaughterhouse in Dong Ha ward, Quang Tri province to butcher and then release them to the market for consumption.
