Speaking to Lao Dong on January 25, a representative of the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) said that according to the Noi Bai Aviation Meteorological Center, on the morning of January 24, 2025, dense fog appeared at Tho Xuan and Vinh airports, forcing 7 flights to change their landing route. After the weather improved, flights could return to land at these two airports as originally planned.
“This weather phenomenon is not unusual during the period from late January to February – the peak time of drizzle and low clouds in the Northern region. Additional cold waves from the east and southeast have created conditions for maintaining cold, humid air currents, leading to drizzle, fog and low cloud ceilings lasting throughout the day, greatly affecting flight operations at airports in the Northern region,” said a VATM representative.
Faced with complex weather conditions, forecasters at the Noi Bai Aviation Meteorological Center have forecasted and issued early warnings to airlines and related units.
According to forecasts, fog and drizzle are likely to continue at airports in the Northern region today and January 26. A new cold front will arrive on January 27, temporarily ending the fog.
However, from February 1, 2025, the drizzle and high humidity, typical of spring in the North, are expected to return. This is the peak period during the Lunar New Year with a large number of flights.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has requested airlines to promptly update information to passengers in case of flight delays or diversions, serve passengers attentively and thoughtfully, and fully fulfill the obligations of airlines to passengers.
At the same time, the Department will continue to closely monitor and work with agencies and units to promptly handle issues arising during the peak air transport season of the 2025 Lunar New Year with the highest goal of safety on every flight.
Updating the operation situation at Noi Bai airport on January 25, a representative of Noi Bai airport said that on the first day of the Lunar New Year holiday (January 25), Noi Bai airport had 587 flights and 93,500 passengers, including nearly 51,000 domestic passengers and 42,600 international passengers.
Notably, the number of passengers is spread across both stations and time slots during the day, so there is no local congestion, and traffic in all areas and routes is still quite clear and convenient.
Of the 51 thousand domestic visitors, 33 thousand were domestic arrivals and nearly 18 thousand were domestic departures.
A representative of Noi Bai airport said that from January 26 to February 2, 2025 (ie December 27 to the end of the 5th day of Tet), the unit will apply enhanced aviation security control measures at level 1 according to the Decision of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.
Noi Bai Airport representative noted that passengers passing through the airport these days should strictly comply with current regulations and instructions from authorities to complete aviation procedures quickly, conveniently, and ensure security and safety.
