Suggested repair
Regarding the reflection of Lao Dong Newspaper on the serious deterioration and damage of National Highway (QL) 19, QL1A and QL1D through Binh Dinh province, the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee (TSC) has requested the operating and management units to fix the damage and shortcomings of the traffic infrastructure on the route.
According to the Traffic Safety Committee of Binh Dinh province, currently, some locations on the National Highway through Binh Dinh province have begun to develop potholes, peeling, and the road surface has degraded and become damaged, causing traffic safety problems and posing a high risk of traffic accidents.
However, through inspection, up to now, the traffic safety assurance of the units still has many shortcomings, is not guaranteed, causing loss of traffic safety, and has the potential risk of traffic accidents.
Therefore, the Traffic Safety Committee of Binh Dinh province requested the Project Management Board 2, 85; Road Management Area III; BOT 36.71 Company Limited; BOT Bac Binh Dinh Joint Stock Company; BOT Binh Dinh Investment Company Limited to inspect and repair damages, creating smooth road surfaces on national highways.
Promptly repair potholes, peeling, flooded, damaged roads, and areas at risk of landslides, causing traffic safety problems for people and vehicles.
Be responsible according to the provisions of law if incidents occur due to slow repair of damaged road surfaces, inadequate traffic infrastructure, causing unsafety, or traffic accidents on routes under the unit's operation and management.
On December 19, speaking with Lao Dong, Lieutenant Colonel Vo Van Chin - Head of the Traffic Police Department of Binh Dinh Province Police said that they are currently surveying and recommending functional agencies and management units to overcome shortcomings in traffic infrastructure on the route before, during and after Tet.
"This whole year, the Traffic Police Department has made many recommendations about the shortcomings of traffic infrastructure on national highways and the province has also directed, but nothing has been resolved yet," said Lieutenant Colonel Chin.
According to the Traffic Police Department of Binh Dinh Province, after checking, there are 97 locations on National Highway 1A showing signs of deterioration, damaged road surfaces, creating deep potholes, posing danger to traffic participants.
Potholes cause fatal accidents
On December 19, speaking with Lao Dong, the leader of Hoai Nhon Town Police said that they are investigating and clarifying the traffic accident that killed one person on National Highway 1A through Dien Khanh Quarter (Hoai Duc Ward, Hoai Nhon Town).
According to initial information, the accident occurred at 2:25 a.m. on December 16 at Km 1153 on National Highway 1A, in front of house number 634 in Dien Khanh quarter. At that time, Mr. Ho Van Tr (born in 1969, residing in Hoai Duc ward, Hoai Nhon town) was driving a motorbike with license plate 77C1-231.35 in the North-South direction. Due to not paying attention, he fell into a pothole (damaged part of the road) and fell onto the road, dying on the spot.
It is known that Mr. Tr's family is in difficult circumstances. Mr. Tr is working as a security guard for a unit in Phu Cat district.
"The accident occurred on a damaged road that is under repair. We are investigating and verifying to clarify the incident," said the leader of Hoai Nhon Town Police.
On the same day, Mr. Tran Thai Hoa - Head of Road Management Office III.4 (Road Management Area III) said that the Office had sent a document to the units managing and operating National Highway 1A to urgently repair the damage. However, due to the rain, the damaged areas peeled off, leading to the above accident.
"This route is managed and operated by the Bac Binh Dinh BOT Joint Stock Company, so this unit must take responsibility," said Mr. Hoa.
Road broken, toll still collected?
In mid-December 2024, National Highway 1A passing through Binh Dinh province was covered with potholes and gravel, seriously affecting traffic and posing many potential risks of accidents.
According to many drivers, the distance between the two BOT toll stations of Bac Binh Dinh and BOT Nam Binh Dinh on National Highway 1A is less than 70km, damaged and seriously degraded, causing traffic safety problems, but they still have to pay fees to the two BOT stations when passing through Binh Dinh province.
