Peach blossom market for Tet is quieter than usual
Having a habit of playing with peach blossoms early on Tet from the 15th day of the 11th lunar month onwards, Mr. Tran Binh Minh (Ba Dinh, Hanoi) spent many hours visiting Quang Ba flower market (Tay Ho, Hanoi) but still could not choose a satisfactory peach blossom branch.
Accepting to spend a significant amount of money to enjoy peach blossoms early, but because the market has fewer flowers than every year, choosing the right peach blossom branch for flower lovers like Mr. Minh is not easy.
“I want to find a beautiful peach blossom branch to decorate my house for Tet early. Therefore, I am willing to invest a large amount of money if I find a satisfactory tree. Unfortunately, the peach blossom market this year at Quang Ba flower market seems to have few flowers and branches, leaving me with few choices.
Around this time every year, peach blossoms are sold in large flower markets in Hanoi, but this year, in my opinion, the peach blossom market seems quite quiet," Mr. Minh shared.
According to research, currently, the early peach branches sold at Quang Ba flower market (Tay Ho, Hanoi) are mainly early-season peaches taken directly from Nhat Tan peach garden. According to Ms. Nguyen Hai Anh, a long-time peach trader here, the price of peaches at this time will be more diverse and cheaper than the time near Tet.
“A popular altar peach tree costs 120,000 - 200,000 VND/branch, while a faded peach tree costs 800,000 - 1,000,000 VND/branch. The peach tree usually has the highest price because it has more eye-catching and bold colors,” Ms. Hai Anh shared.
Peach prices are predicted to be high this year.
Ms. Nguyen Lan Phuong (Tay Ho, Hanoi) has been working as a florist and businesswoman at Quang Ba flower market for decades and said that storm Yagi caused severe damage to peach gardens.
“About 60-70% of the old peach varieties have been flooded and damaged, causing a significant shortage in the supply of flowers for the Tet peach market this year. To have flowers to sell early, businesses must sell new altar peach varieties to meet the market demand at the end of the year,” Ms. Lan Phuong informed.
Also doing business at Quang Ba flower market, Ms. Thu Hang predicts that the price of peach blossoms this year will certainly be higher than previous years due to the consequences of natural disasters.
"In my experience, the average price of peach blossoms will increase slightly compared to bonsai peaches, seven-inch peaches and high-end peaches for connoisseurs.
Due to the impact of storm No. 3, many long-standing peach gardens were severely damaged, and it is very difficult to restore them to their original state and sell them to people. Since the beginning of November, flower lovers have been looking for peach trees to buy early, but the quantity is limited because there is nothing to sell," said Ms. Hang.
