The offshore patrol boat BRP Gabriela Silang (OPV-8301) of the Philippine coastal protection force was led by Colonel Eleizer Gonzales Ibarientos as captain and 84 crew members to visit Danang in this first time. This is an event marking the first time a PCG train visited Vietnam, taking place from 14 to 17.4.
The official welcome ceremony took place solemnly with the participation of representatives of the Coast Guard Region 2 Command, Da Nang City People's Committee, Military Region 5 Command, Military Command and City Border Guard, Foreign Affairs Department (Ministry of Defense), Region 3 Navy and relevant authorities. At the same time, the Vietnam Coast Guard warmly welcomed the high -level mission of the PCG by Admiral Joeven L Fabul, Deputy Commander, leading the representative of the Embassy and Office of the Philippine Defense Attache in Vietnam.
Within the framework of the visit, the PCG delegation will carry out meaningful activities including greeting the commune leaders of Da Nang City People's Committee and the Coast Guard Command 2; visit and exchange sports at the Coast Guard Command 2; Especially participating in the general practice of search and explosion prevention and explosion at sea with ships of the Vietnam Coast Guard.
The BRP Gabriela Silang (OPV-8301) is the first offshore patrol ship and the second largest and most modern train in the PCG's payroll today.
This historical visit has a great significance, which is a specific activity of the memorandum of cooperation between the Vietnam Coast Guard and the Philippine coastal guards signed in January 2024. This is a valuable opportunity for officials and employees of two forces to enhance exchanges, learn and share experiences on law enforcement at sea, thereby contributing to tightening the friendship, cooperation, understanding and mutual trust. Colonel Eleizer Gonzales Ibarientos emphasized the desire to cooperate, learn from experience from Vietnam and partners, towards ensuring safety and maritime security in the region.
