Vietnamese workers say no to drugs

Each trade union group should become a preventive point; each grassroots trade union will become a "shield" to protect workers and laborers from the danger of drugs.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of "Vietnamese Workers Say No to Drugs - Million Hearts, a Determination" organized by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor in coordination with the Ministry of Public Security in Hai Phong on the evening of September 18, Standing Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Ngo Duy Hieu emphasized: "There are stumbles in life, we can correct them. But with drugs, even just once is enough for someone to pay a price of a decade, or even have no chance to redo it.

According to the Standing Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, a minute of curiosity can be exchanged for health. A moment of letting go can lose a stable job. A person addicted to drugs will surely lead to tears of an entire family, losing honor, trust, and happiness. Behind each worker addicted to drugs is the pain of a family, clan, the loss of the business and the burden and insecurity for society.

Today, we are present in the dynamic, creative and traditional port city to launch the campaign "Vietnamese Workers Say No to Drugs", with the message "Million hearts, one determination" within the framework of Sub-project 4, under Project 7, the National Target Program on Drug Prevention and Control to 2030 co-organized by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the Ministry of Public Security. I hope that workers who come here will not only attend the launching ceremony but also, more importantly, we will commit and act together: Don't try drugs, even once; Don't gamble on the future for a moment of curiosity; Don't trade your current job for an invitation; Don't let parents cry, let husband and wife suffer, let children suffer because of a wrong decision; Don't let drugs take away a worker from the factory; take away a father and mother from the family home and take away the future of a young person full of dreams and aspirations.

The Standing Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour requested trade union levels: prevent and combat drugs not only with billboards, slogans or a few propaganda sessions. Drug prevention must be done before drugs reach workers. It is necessary to know how to prevent; understand to avoid; join hands to prevent; and compassionately help wrongdoers return home.

To do so, grassroots trade unions must be present in places where workers need them most: factories, workshops, boarding houses, community activities and most importantly, when a worker encounters difficulties, loneliness, loses direction and is most easily attracted.

The Standing Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour requested trade union levels to do three things well: Help workers know to prevent; create an environment for workers to live healthy, happy, and positively; not abandon wrongdoers.

I hope that after today's launching ceremony, each union member, each worker will become a propagandist; each trade union group will become a preventive point; each grassroots trade union will become a "shield" to protect workers from the danger of drugs" - Standing Vice Chairman Ngo Duy Hieu emphasized.
