On the morning of October 25, Coast Guard ship number 3006 towed and brought the distressed fishing boat number HT 96868 TS to the shore of Xuan Hoi commune, Nghi Xuan district, Ha Tinh province.
Previously, at 11:25 p.m. on October 24, the Command of the Coast Guard Region 1 received information about fishing boat number HT 96868 TS in distress in the sea area 30 nautical miles northeast of Cua Sot (Ha Tinh). Immediately afterwards, the Command of the Coast Guard Region 1 directed the Coast Guard ship 3006, Squadron 102, which was on duty more than 45 nautical miles from the distressed boat, to urgently approach and rescue.
At 3:00 a.m. on October 25, Coast Guard Ship 3006 approached the fishing boat in distress in high waves and strong winds. However, fisherman Nguyen Van M (51 years old, from Xuan Hoi commune, Nghi Xuan district) had died from drowning a few hours earlier.

Officers and soldiers of CSB 3006 then made ropes to tow the wrecked ship to the mainland.
The HT 96868 TS is a purse seine fishing vessel with 8 crew members, captained by Nguyen Van Luan (38 years old, from Hai Xuan commune, Hai Hau district, Nam Dinh province). The vessel departed from Xuan Hoi fishing port, Nghi Xuan district (Ha Tinh) on October 18.
On the morning of October 23, while fishing at sea, the ship's propeller broke, lost its ability to maneuver and drifted at sea in force 6 winds, gusting to force 7, threatening the lives of the crew. Faced with this situation, the captain sent out a message requesting rescue forces to assist in bringing the ship ashore.
