Located on Huong Lo 9, Cu Chi District, Binh My Nursing Home is like a shared home for hundreds of elderly people. Every time Tet comes, this place becomes more bustling than ever. Peach blossoms and apricot trees blooming brightly, along with the cheerful laughter of the elderly, create a truly warm Tet atmosphere.
Ms. Ha Thi Minh Thuy (88 years old) - one of the elderly people living here - shared: "This year is the first year I celebrate Tet at the nursing home. At first, I was sad but then I realized this was the right decision. Here, I have friends of the same age, we prepare for Tet together, wrap Chung cakes, decorate the house. It feels so warm!"
Sharing the same sentiment, Mr. Nguyen Si Giao (85 years old) said he voluntarily stayed at the nursing home so that his children could have more time to take care of the family.
“I don’t want to be a burden to my children. Here, I am well taken care of and have many friends,” he said.
Not only the elderly, many families also choose to celebrate Tet with their relatives at nursing homes. Ms. Nguyen Quyen shared: “My father is very happy to stay at the nursing home to celebrate Tet. We want him to have a meaningful Tet.”
Mr. Le Pham Dang Khoi - a son living in Australia - returned home and went to the nursing home to celebrate Tet with his father. Mr. Khoi said that this Tet, he decided to take 3 weeks off to return to Vietnam to take his father out to celebrate Tet.
“According to Vietnamese tradition, Tet is an occasion for family reunion, so I decided to take a long leave right on Tet to take my father out and take souvenir photos. I plan to visit my father 2-3 times a week during this Tet holiday,” Khoi shared.
As a caregiver at a nursing home, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mo also chose to stay and celebrate Tet with the elderly here. Ms. Mo confided that every Tet holiday is always a moment of reunion. Looking at the images of the elderly here without relatives, she also felt sorry for them.
“We understand that Tet is a very important occasion for everyone, especially the elderly. Therefore, we always try to create a warm and meaningful Tet atmosphere at the hospital. We want each elderly person to feel loved and cared for,” said Ms. Mo.
Tet is not only a time for reunion but also a time to share love. Wherever you are, as long as there is love and care, Tet is always a meaningful holiday season. For the elderly in nursing homes, they still have a warm, full and complete Tet.
