The Cho Moi - Bac Kan Expressway project has a total investment of more than VND 5,700 billion, invested by Project Management Board 2, starting construction in mid-March 2025 with the goal of improving infrastructure, making the area convenient for traffic.
The project has a total length of nearly 29km. The starting point of the project is at Km0+00 connecting the Thai Nguyen - Cho Moi Expressway in Cho Moi District, the end point is connecting the Bac Kan - Cao Bang Expressway in Bac Kan City.
The route has a designed speed of 80km/h with a scale of 4 lanes, a roadbed width of 22m, and will have 16 bridges and 2 overpasses.

According to the investigation of Lao Dong Newspaper, to implement the construction, the route directly affects 1,210 households, organizations and individuals in Cho Moi district and Bac Kan city, of which 175 households have to relocate their houses.
According to information from the People's Committee of Bac Kan City, site clearance (GPMB) is also facing difficulties because many poor and near-poor households have built houses on agricultural land, causing difficulties in inventorying and determining the support level.
Meanwhile, many households had to relocate their houses but the resettlement area had not been built, nor had a temporary housing support policy, affecting the progress of site handover.
On the side of Cho Moi District People's Committee, the site clearance process in the area is facing some problems related to compensation unit prices.
Accordingly, trees, crops and architectural objects outside the scope of house construction, outside the residential land area, do not have a clear support mechanism.

The district has proposed that the Provincial People's Committee consider and direct relevant departments and branches to study appropriate solutions.
Some areas with graves 1 to 2m from the route are not eligible for relocation, leading to disagreement among the people.
In addition, many types of crops such as snakehead plant, chiet tree, yellow flower tree... are not included in the compensation price list, causing difficulties in practical implementation.
On May 9, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, a leader of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Cho Moi district said that the site clearance work in the area is underway and is expected to be completed before May 30.
The estimated cost for site clearance is up to more than 352 billion VND, with 4 compensation plans approved. In May, the locality will continue to submit 3 more packages, with a total cost of about 183 billion VND.
This is one of the key projects, when completed and put into operation, it will not only contribute to improving transport infrastructure but also help the development of transportation, trade and the regional economy.
