People have to collect rainwater
Mr. Mai Van Lach (Phuoc Thoi Hamlet, Binh Phuoc Commune, Mang Thit District) said that his family has lived on river water for many years. However, in recent years, water has become increasingly polluted, especially during the agricultural production season.
According to Mr. Lach, when farmers spray feces and pesticides and release water, the river water is muddy and foul. He had to wait for the big water to dare to pump and store, then invested more than 10 million VND to build a separate reservoir for temporary use.
In mid-2024, hearing the news of a project to bring tap water to rural areas, Mr. Ut was overwhelmed. The pipeline was constructed and completed at the end of the year, running right in front of the old man's house. However, it has been more than 5 months, and the system is still not working because there is no connecting clock.
"The tap water is not yet available, I still have to use river water and rainwater every day," Mr. Lach shared.
In a similar situation, Mr. Luong Huu Phuoc (63 years old, in the same hamlet) said that his family has had to pump water from the canal in front of their house to roll up to level the alum and use it for many years.
"In July and August 2024, I was very happy to see a water pipe being dug through my house. Who would have thought that they would have to dig again because they were not deep enough? The water is still not available. I can handle it if it costs money, as long as there is clean water to use, he said.
A clock will be installed in July 2025
Mr. Ho Minh Tri - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Phuoc Commune ( Mang Thit District, Vinh Long Province) - informed that the water supply pipe system passes through many hamlets in the commune with a total length of more than 20km, expected to serve more than 400 households. However, so far only 50 households in Phuoc Tuong hamlet have installed meters and have clean water to use.
"We prioritize installing Phuoc Tuong hamlet because this place has a canals covering the water, and there is a serious shortage of clean water," said Mr. Tri.
In An Binh island commune (Long Ho district), so far only about 70 households have been connected to use tap water. Many remaining households have registered but still have to wait because they do not have meters to install.
According to the approved decision of the People's Committee of Vinh Long province, the project to expand the water supply pipeline system to serve a total of 876 households in Binh Phuoc and An Binh communes, with a total length of 31km.
The total investment is more than 7.2 billion VND, of which the non-refundable aid capital is about 5 billion VND, the rest is from the provincial budget. The project will be implemented in the period of 2023 - 2024 to improve the quality of domestic water for rural people.
A representative of the Center for Clean Water and Rural Environmental Sanitation said that the reason for the delay is that they are completing procedures to bid to buy water meters. The installation will continue after completion, expected in July 2025.
