After a period of construction in complicated conditions, the project to lift the clearance of Binh Phuoc 1 bridge on National Highway 1 has been completed and officially opened to traffic. The project contributes to ensuring safety and smooth traffic on roads and waterways and synchronously completing the Saigon River overpass system according to the plan.
Binh Phuoc 1 Bridge was built before 1975, and was repaired and expanded in 2012, but the clearance clearance has not met the exploitation requirements. In response to that reality, the bridge clearance project was implemented to meet the standards of a level II waterway, with a 50 m wide boat clearance and a minimum height of 7 m, meeting the requirements of inland waterway development.
The project is invested by the Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center, with a total investment of about 110 billion VND, the total length of the entire route is nearly 760 m, raising the bridge clearance by 1.25 m. The project will start construction in February 2025.
During the construction process, the project encountered many difficulties in both ensuring waterway traffic and organizing vehicles to travel through the bridge. Raising the stimulation with a large height is a new technical solution, requiring strict calculation, strict control of safety and quality of the project.
One of the major problems is the system of two D450 water supply pipes on the bridge. If relocated at the same time, the risk of affecting the domestic water source of local people is very high. In that situation, relevant units have coordinated to install a temporary water pipeline system across Binh Phuoc 2 bridge to ensure stable water supply, while not interrupting the construction progress.
In parallel with the construction work, the traffic police force, police and local authorities are mobilized to regulate, divert traffic, limit congestion, and ensure traffic safety in the construction area.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Vo Khanh Hung - Deputy Director of the Department of Construction said that the completion of raising the clearance of Binh Phuoc 1 bridge not only removed the bottleneck of waterway traffic but also showed the increasingly synchronous development of the transportation and construction sector, creating more convenience for people in traveling and transporting goods.
The operation of Binh Phuoc 1 Bridge helps promote the effectiveness of waterway infrastructure, promote the development of the port and inland waterway wharf system in Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh province; thereby contributing to reducing the load on road traffic, enhancing regional connectivity and actively contributing to the economic and social development of the Southern region and the Southern key economic region.
