On August 25, information from the Civil Defense Command of Nghe An province said that Ban Ve Hydropower Company began operating to regulate reservoirs and discharge water through spillways to reduce floods for downstream areas.
According to the announcement of Ban Ve Hydropower Company, the start time of operation is from 9:00 AM on August 25. The total expected discharge flow downstream is from 340m3/second to 1,200m3/second, including the flow through power generating units and the discharge flow through the spillway.
The actual discharge flow may change depending on the development of floodwater flowing to the reservoir. The discharge ends after completing the reservoir regulation operation process according to regulations.
Previously, at 23:32 on August 24, the Steering Committee for Civil Defense of Nghe An province received a notice from Ban Ve Hydropower Company about the plan to operate and regulate the reservoir to reduce floods for downstream areas.
According to a report by Ban Ve Hydropower Company, due to the impact of heavy rain, large floods are appearing in the hydropower reservoir basin. At 2:30 PM on August 24, the inflow of water into the reservoir reached 2,047m3/second and tended to continue to increase; the reservoir water level at the same time was at an altitude of 190.26m.
The forecast bulletin of Nghe An Provincial Hydrometeorological Station at 1:30 PM on August 24 shows that the largest flood flow to Ban Ve Hydropower reservoir on August 25 may reach about 3,200m3/second.
Faced with the complicated developments of storm No. 4 and floods, the People's Committee of Nghe An province issued an urgent telegram, requesting departments, branches, units and local authorities to closely monitor the situation, proactively deploy disaster response plans, and ensure safety for people.
The Provincial Military Command and Nghe An Provincial Police are required to be ready with forces, materials, and vehicles to support localities in responding to and overcoming the consequences of rain and floods when necessary.
