The Tuyen Quang Hydropower project expansion, adding 1 unit with a capacity of 120 MW, is expected to be implemented in the near future.

Tuyen Quang Provincial People's Committee has just issued Decision No. 2018 approving the investment policy, and at the same time approving the investor to implement the Tuyen Quang Hydropower expansion project as Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN).

Tuyen Quang Hydropower expansion is a special-grade project, with an installed capacity of 120 MW, 1 unit. Average electricity output is about 76.63 million kWh/year. The project implementation location is Na Hang commune, Tuyen Quang province.

According to EVN, the expanded power line is proposed to be arranged on the right bank of Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plant, including the main items: Input canal, shore-mounted tower-style water intake, water tunnel, pressure control tower, open-top hydropower plant with a capacity of 120 MW, downstream discharge canal, distribution station and auxiliary works.

The Tuyen Quang Hydropower expansion project aims to reserve power generation capacity for the power system, providing rapid and reliable backup sources when other power sources encounter problems or cannot meet sudden increases in demand.

At the same time, increasing the ability to mobilize capacity for load, especially during peak hours, avoiding having to discharge excess water in the flood season, contributing to improving the working regime of the power system.

Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plant was built from the end of 2002 and officially inaugurated, connected to the national grid in 2008 with 3 units, total capacity of 342 MW. After being expanded, this project will have a total of 4 units, total capacity of 462 MW.

It is expected that in the fourth quarter of 2026, the Tuyen Quang Hydropower expansion project will start construction, complete construction and put the project into use in the fourth quarter of 2030.
