Ensuring smooth traffic with Nguyen Trai bridge
To reduce traffic conflicts, increase the traffic flow capacity of the intersection in the direction of Nguyen Trai - Le Hong Phong to Cat Bi airport, and at the same time to ensure synchronicity and smooth traffic in the area, the City People's Committee approved the adjustment of component project 1: construction of works under the project to invest in the construction of Nguyen Trai bridge and urban embellishment of the surrounding area. Accordingly, the construction investment scale is supplemented, including: Renovation of the grade-separated intersection at the intersection between Nguyen Trai - Le Hong Phong - Da Nang - Le Loi - Le Lai streets with a direct underpass in the direction of Nguyen Trai - Le Hong Phong; expansion of the road surface on both sides of the tunnel and organization of traffic at the same level in an inversion with a diameter of 40 m. The access roads to the intersection are connected according to the current status.
Specifically, the construction of the underpass towards Nguyen Trai - Le Hong Phong street has a total length of 340 m, including: a closed tunnel about 120 m long, an open tunnel on Nguyen Trai street side about 100 m long and an open tunnel on Le Hong Phong street side about 120 m long. The tunnel cross-section is arranged in accordance with the Nguyen Trai bridge cross-section to ensure 6 lanes, including 4 motorized lanes, 2 mixed lanes. Along with that, complete the technical infrastructure items in the intersection: pumping station system, drainage, lighting, green trees, traffic safety system...
The project is implemented in Ngo Quyen and Gia Vien wards, using nearly 5 hectares of land. The total investment of the intersection is 565.2 billion VND. With this adjustment, the total investment of Component Project 1: construction of works under the Project to Invest in the construction of Nguyen Trai bridge and urban embellishment of the surrounding area is increased to 4, 981.4 billion VND (an increase of more than 565 billion VND compared to the previous decision). The intersection is expected to be completed and put into operation when Nguyen Trai bridge is officially opened to traffic.
Proposal to accelerate the progress of site handover

As one of the important items of the Nguyen Trai bridge project, but according to the joint venture management board of the bidding package, although the minutes of handover of technical infrastructure and green trees have been signed, in fact, the construction teams have not been fully handed over the site; entangled in many technical infrastructure projects and existing assets.
Specifically, the closed tunnel construction front is entangled in the underground system, clean water pipes D600, D400; the open tunnel construction front on Nguyen Trai side is entangled in the clean water pipe system D600 and communication pipes. The open tunnel construction front on Le Hong Phong side is entangled in the median strip, green trees, power pole system, electrical cables, telecommunications cables, clean water pipe system D400 and billboards. The Nguyen Trai 2 road construction front is entangled in Nguyen Trai flower garden, sidewalk green trees, lighting system. The pumping station construction front is entangled in the electrical cable system, telecommunications cables and green trees.
Talking to Lao Dong reporters at the intersection construction site, Mr. Ha Hong Quang - representative of Licogi 18 Company - said that according to the progress set by the investor, the project strives to be completed in 2026. At this time, the units are focusing on site clearance and relocation of technical infrastructure within the construction area. Currently, the project has also cleared 60% of the site.
The two contractors are focusing manpower, machinery, and equipment, and in the near future, they will urgently construct to complete the goal set by the investor. Also according to the contractor representative, traffic assurance at the intersection is also focused on by the investor and contractors. The traffic density at the intersection is very high, especially during peak hours. Therefore, units arrange traffic assurance in stages, and which items will be put into operation so that people can travel.
