The progress of the Ring Road 3 project through Ho Chi Minh City has just been reported by the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Management Board (investor) to the Vietnam Expressway Administration.
Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 is a key transport project passing through Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Long An. In phase one, the route has a total length of more than 76 km, including 4 expressway lanes and parallel roads.
The project has a total investment of nearly 75,400 billion VND, divided into 8 component projects directly implemented by localities, including site clearance and construction.
The section of Ring Road 3 passing through Ho Chi Minh City alone is more than 47km long, with a total investment of about VND41,387 billion, of which compensation and site clearance costs account for VND18,975 billion.
The project started in June 2023 and is currently implementing 10 main packages.
According to the HCM City Traffic Construction Investment Management Board, the current construction output is about 24.3%. The contractor is speeding up the construction of bridges and tunnels on the route and handling weak ground.
In 2024, the project was assigned to disburse VND5,262 billion. However, by the end of November, only VND1,597 billion had been disbursed, reaching 30.3% of the plan.
Regarding sand for embankment, 6/13 sand mines have been licensed, supplying about 1.35 million m3 for construction. It is expected that the remaining 7 mines will complete procedures by December 2024, contributing to speeding up the project's progress.
In addition to the section through Ho Chi Minh City, the 11.43km Ring Road 3 through Binh Duong province is currently 14.5% complete, while the 6.8km section through Long An province is 48% complete. The 11.2km section through Dong Nai province is only 7.2%.
Ho Chi Minh City and provinces have agreed on the expected time frames for opening some sections of Ho Chi Minh City's Ring Road 3.
By April 30, 2025, a number of items at the intersection of Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway will be completed, ensuring synchronous exploitation and connection of Nhon Trach Bridge with this expressway.
In December 2025, the expressway section through Long An, from Kenh Thay Thuoc bridge to Ben Luc intersection, is expected to open to traffic.
On January 30, 2026, the overpass section through Thu Duc City (HCMC) will be technically opened to traffic.
By April 30, 2026, the entire Ring Road 3 route through Ho Chi Minh City will be put into operation and some sections through Dong Nai and Binh Duong will also be open to traffic.
In December 2026, the entire Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 expressway will be officially completed and open to traffic.
When completed, Ring Road 3 will connect 5 key expressways including: Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong; Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay; Ben Luc - Long Thanh; Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai and Ho Chi Minh City - Chon Thanh, creating a traffic network connecting the entire region.
The project not only helps reduce traffic congestion but also significantly saves time and transportation costs. Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 will open up new development spaces, create industrial corridors connecting seaport clusters, and promote logistics activities.
