On September 21, Vinh Hien Border Guard Station - Thua Thien Hue Provincial Border Guard said that the unit had just coordinated with Loc Binh Commune Police (Phu Loc District) and Phu Loc District Forest Rangers to receive a rare reticulated python from a local resident who voluntarily surrendered it.
At 10:00 a.m. on September 21, in Tan An Hai village, Loc Binh commune (Phu Loc district), Mr. Nguyen Trang (born in 1975, residing in Hoa An village, Loc Binh commune, Phu Loc district) discovered a python weighing about 12kg. Knowing that this was a rare python, Mr. Trang captured it and proactively reported it to the authorities to hand it over.
Through inspection, the authorities determined that this was a reticulated python (also known as Asian reticulated python), with the scientific name Python reticulatus, more than 3m long, weighing about 12kg, belonging to the IIB wildlife group, classified as extremely endangered and rare in the Vietnam Red Book.
After confirming that the python's health was stable and showed no signs of illness, the authorities carried out legal procedures according to regulations.
At 2:00 p.m. the same day, Vinh Hien Border Guard Station, Loc Binh Commune Police and Phu Loc District Forest Rangers released the reticulated python into the natural environment at Bac Hai Van Pass, Phu Loc District, Thua Thien Hue Province.
According to the law, hunting, trading of reticulated pythons, and using products of this python species in any form are strictly prohibited.
