On August 27, information from Con Tien Commune Police (Quang Tri province) said that the unit had just connected philanthropists to organize a delegation to visit, encourage and provide necessities to support officers and soldiers of Division 968 who are performing the task of searching for and repatriating martyrs' remains in the Con Tien base area.
In the harsh hot weather, officers and soldiers still clung to the area, diligently searching for every trace, part of the remains of those who sacrificed.
According to Con Tien Commune Police, although the gifts were not large, they were a source of encouragement, expressing sharing and gratitude to the force performing this special task.
According to the Team for Searching and Repatriating Martyrs' Remains of Division 968, on May 8, 1967, Division 324 coordinated to attack Con Tien base and suffered many losses. According to sources provided by the US Veterans Association in Vietnam in 2004, in the Con Tien Mountain area, there was once a mass grave of 173 Vietnamese soldiers who sacrificed in the battle.
From August 5-6, the Land-penetrating Radar Task Force under the Institute of Design (General Department of Logistics - Technology) surveyed 8 suspicious locations, discovering many areas of land showing signs of disturbance. Based on radar data, functional forces proposed to dig and survey in suspicious areas to verify the possibility of martyrs' remains remaining.
Leaders of Military Region 4 requested Division 968 to mobilize maximum forces and vehicles, accelerate searches, not to miss traces; and at the same time ensure the necessary conditions to serve the repatriation work.
