Remains of a martyr found in Khanh Hoa after nearly 60 years of sacrifice

Khanh Hoa - After nearly 60 years of sacrifice, the remains of martyr Ka Tor Tien have been found, collected, and brought to Ninh Thuan Martyrs' Cemetery by relevant units.

On August 5, news from the Military Command of Khanh Hoa province said that the remains of martyr Ka Tor Tien - who sacrificed in Ta Noi village, Anh Dung commune, have been found, collected, and taken to Ninh Thuan Martyrs' Cemetery by the unit together with local authorities, relatives and witnesses to organize a memorial service and burial.

Martyr Ka Tor Tien was born in 1949, originally from Tay Phuoc, An Son, Thuan Hai; is the Vice Captain, Anh Dung District Team.

The comrade sacrificed himself on March 17, 1967 and was initially buried in Ta Noi village, Anh Dung commune.

To serve the search work, the Military Command of Khanh Hoa province has coordinated with local Party committees, authorities, functional agencies, relatives and witnesses to check records, compare information, conduct field surveys, and zone off burial sites.

Mr. Ka To Toan, the martyr's younger brother, directly participated in leading the way and providing important information to help the task force determine the search area.

From August 1 to 4, 2026, the search force will conduct surveys, determine locations and complete the work of clearing bombs, mines, and explosives to ensure safety before organizing the repatriation of remains on August 5, 2026.

In the bamboo forest area of Ta Noi village, the task force carefully peeled off each layer of soil.

After the search process, the remains of martyr Ka Tor Tien were discovered and repatriated in accordance with regulations.

After completing the repatriation work, the martyrs' remains were taken to Ninh Thuan Martyrs' Cemetery, Xuan Hai commune, Khanh Hoa province to organize a memorial service and burial.

In the memorial service, comrades, relatives and local people respectfully bid farewell to the martyr who bravely sacrificed himself for the cause of fighting for national independence and freedom.

The repatriation of martyr Ka Tor Tien's remains after nearly 60 years is the result of coordination between military forces, local authorities, relatives and witnesses.

This is also a meaningful activity in the "500 Days and Nights" Campaign to search for and repatriate martyrs' remains, contributing to the implementation of the ethical principles of "Drinking water, remembering the source", "Gratitude" of the nation.

Implementing the "Operation 500 days and nights to promote the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs' remains", Khanh Hoa province was assigned by Military Region 5 to take samples for 2,183 martyrs' remains at graves where information has not been identified; repatriate 150 martyrs' remains; verify and conclude 168 areas with 946 martyrs' graves information.

To date, the province has organized sampling at 5 out of 7 martyrs' cemeteries; excavated 1,517 graves, collected 907 samples, of which 99 samples have been handed over to the Military Forensic Institute, and the rest are continuing to be transferred.
