On the afternoon of August 4, Steering Committee 515 of An Giang province organized a conference to summarize the implementation of the task of searching for and repatriating the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who sacrificed in the wars in Cambodia and in the country, phase XXV (dry season 2025 - 2026).
In phase XXV, the Provincial Steering Committee 515 focused on leading and directing agencies and units to synchronously implement many solutions, closely coordinating with localities and units at home and abroad, especially the Specialized Committee, government, armed forces and people of Cambodian provinces to organize surveys, collect information, search for and repatriate martyrs' remains.
As a result, in the dry season of 2025 - 2026, the forces searched and collected 170 sets of martyrs' remains, including 128 sets of martyrs' remains in Cambodia and 42 sets of martyrs' remains in An Giang province; identified the identity of 1 set of martyr Dang Van Dung (alias Dung) in Ba Chuc commune.
In Cambodia, Team K92, Team K93 coordinated with the Specialized Committee, government, armed forces and people of 6 provinces of the Kingdom of Cambodia to conduct surveys, verify information, and organize excavations at many locations. The units have received and processed 97 sources of information with more than 164 search locations, conducted excavations on 104. 411 m3 of soil and rock, thereby collecting 128 sets of martyrs' remains.
Along with performing professional tasks, the units also focus on mass mobilization and military foreign affairs; regularly visit and support the government, armed forces and people of Cambodia. Organize medical examinations, dispense medicine, and give gifts, contributing to consolidating solidarity and friendship between the two countries, creating favorable conditions for search and repatriation work.
In An Giang province, Team K92 and Team K93 coordinated with Party committees, authorities, and local armed forces to organize reviews, surveys, and searches in many areas. The results have collected 42 sets of martyrs' remains in Kien Luong, Chi Lang, Tinh Bien, Thoi Son, and Ba Chuc areas.
Besides the achieved results, the conference also assessed the difficulties and limitations in the process of performing tasks. That is, the situation in the area has changed a lot, some areas no longer have traces; dossiers and information about martyrs and martyrs' graves are incomplete; witnesses are increasingly few, age is getting older, health is declining; harsh weather conditions, prolonged hot sun affect the health of officers and soldiers directly performing tasks.
Speaking at the conclusion of the conference, Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Le Van Phuoc emphasized that searching for and repatriating martyrs' remains is an important political task, showing the responsibility, feelings and morality of "When drinking water, remember the source", "Gratitude" of the Party, State and people towards those who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
The comrade requested agencies and units to continue to thoroughly grasp and effectively implement the guidelines and policies on searching for and repatriating martyrs' remains. Strengthen propaganda and mobilization of people, especially veterans, to provide information about martyrs and martyrs' graves; improve the effectiveness of coordination with Cambodian localities in collecting information, verifying, and organizing searches.
For the XXVI phase (dry season 2026 - 2027), the Provincial Steering Committee 515 determined to continue to promote the 500-day and night Campaign to promote the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs' remains; focusing on key areas, revolutionary base areas, places of combat, initial burial areas, temporary cemeteries, prisons, and jails; and at the same time reviewing and completing dossiers and lists of martyrs, improving the effectiveness of management and information storage.
