On August 22nd, the Quang Ngai Provincial Military Command informed that on August 21st, Team No. 10 for taking martyr remains samples discovered some artifacts buried with remains at Hanh Thinh Martyrs' Cemetery, Dinh Cuong commune.
Inside the unidentified tomb, there is a rubber sandal and some other artifacts... notably, the portrait of the woman is only about 50% clearer than the original state.
The photo was discovered during the excavation of grave number 9, row 4, West area at Hanh Thinh Martyrs' Cemetery to take biological samples for DNA testing.
Realizing that this could be an important artifact related to the martyr whose identity has not been identified, functional forces coordinated with specialized facilities to restore the photo. Up to now, the image has been restored more clearly, becoming valuable clues in the journey to identify the martyr's identity.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Huu Phuoc, Team Leader of the martyrs' remains sampling team No. 10, Quang Ngai Provincial Military Command, the discovery of artifacts still preserved in unidentified graves is always of special significance.
Photos, rubber sandals or personal items can all be valuable clues to connect martyrs with relatives; compare records and clarify the identity of those who sacrificed for the Fatherland.
The excavation of graves at Hanh Thinh Martyrs' Cemetery is part of the "Operation 500 days and nights to promote the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs' remains". Currently, this cemetery has about 591 graves, of which 260 graves have not been identified, and nearly 50 graves have been excavated so far.
In the coming time, the Quang Ngai Provincial Military Command will continue to coordinate with specialized agencies and local authorities across the country to review, compare dossiers, and verify information related to the portrait photo of the woman and the artifacts found, with the hope of soon bringing the martyr's name back to his family.
In addition, the Provincial Military Command also hopes that through the above photo, along with information about the martyr's grave, agencies, units and people, if anyone knows information to help identify the martyr's identity, they can contact and provide information to the switchboard of the Provincial Military Command at phone number: 0397. 007. 500.
