On the morning of October 8, the People's Committee of Bao Yen district informed that rescue units had found two more bodies in the flash flood and landslide that occurred in Lang Nu village, Phuc Khanh commune nearly a month ago.
Through DNA testing results, the victims were identified as Hoang Van G (born in 1985) and Hoang Quynh L (born in 2014).
So far, the flash flood in Lang Nu village has killed 60 people, with 7 people still missing. The number of people who are safe is 87.
Bao Yen district authorities are mobilizing people and equipment to join the search for the remaining missing victims.
Lang Nu village, Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen district, Lao Cai province, located at the foot of Voi mountain, is home to 167 households with 760 Tay people living for many generations. The people mainly do farming, growing two crops of rice, corn, and cassava a year.
In the early morning of September 10, the flash flood and landslide disaster here buried 37 households and affected 158 people. At least 1.6 million cubic meters of mud and rock collapsed at a terrifying speed in about 5 minutes on a 3.6km stretch of road, turning a large residential area and people's fields into empty land, mud mixed with rocks and soil.
Implementing the Prime Minister's direction on the task of overcoming the consequences of floods and quickly rebuilding Lang Nu village, Tam Long Viet Fund - Vietnam Television immediately coordinated to build a resettlement area for Lang Nu village to help people overcome their grief and stabilize their lives.
Along with that, the Vietnam Television Trade Union coordinated with the Tam Long Viet Fund to sponsor and preside over the construction of a memorial stele for the victims of the terrible flash flood and landslide in Lang Nu so that people can come to burn incense and commemorate the unfortunate victims.
