Phuong My Chi's choice to duet with Kha Lau surprised many Vietnamese audiences. She opened with "Tuy am" - a hit that was once in the hearts of music lovers.
In 2018, "Tuy am" performed by young singer Xesi reached 100 million views in just 6 months - a number that very few Vietnamese singers achieved at that time.
More surprisingly, Xesi, who was only 17 years old at that time, created an addictive hit, without a MV or promotion to create a phenomenon.
The song arouses curiosity right from the name that Xesi explains: "Tuy" means "say", "am" means sound, music. So "Tuy am" has two meanings: the sound in a drunken moment or the drunken in music.
After 7 years, that sweet melody once again resounded, resonating with the classic cai luong song "Tieng don Me Linh".
"The Me Linh Drum" is a classic operetta by composer Vinh Dien, first performed in 1977. The play was originally a Cheo play named "Trung Vuong" by author Viet Dung.
The play's content is about the Hai Ba Trung uprising. During the Northern domination period, under the harsh rule of the province of To Dinh, Mrs. Trung Trac and her younger sister Trung Nhi led the Southern people to rise up and chase the invaders.
Phuong My Chi shined with the song: "The moment of grief is not yet there, but the way of am duong has become cold and sad" in the play "Tieng Dam Me Linh", combined with the powerful voice of Kha Lau.
Phuong My Chi sang " Luc Hai Vi Vuong" in Vietnamese, expressing the spirit of harmony and honoring cultural diversity.
After the performance of "X Recordings of Lu Hai Vi Vuong" aired, the DTAP producer shared: "As soon as we learned that there would be a friend from China, DTAP made a "compute" for itself: how to create a mashup where each cultural material retains its own characteristics and identity, but can still blend together naturally".
