While swimming, the group unfortunately slipped into the deep water area. Some people living near the area discovered the incident and quickly rushed down to rescue and rescued the 2 children.
The remaining two victims, Nguyen Van Thang, 17 years old, and Tran Van Dai, 16 years old, went missing. Immediately after the incident occurred, functional forces and local people organized a night-long search.
By the evening of June 23, the second victim was found. Local authorities have coordinated with the families to take care of the funerals for the victims.
The two victims were students of a high school in the former Do Luong district.
Bara Do Luong dam is an important irrigation project of Nghe An province. The area at the foot of the dam has many deep holes, complex flows, posing potential safety risks, especially in the hot season when many children and students go to rivers, lakes, and dams to cool off.
Over the past time, functional agencies have continuously advised people, especially parents, to strengthen management and remind children not to swim in dangerous rivers, lakes, dams, and deep ponds to prevent drowning accidents.
