As Lao Dong newspaper reported, on the morning of April 29, in the sea area of Binh Thanh hamlet 1, Lien Huong commune, Lam Dong province, people heard 2 loud explosions coming from a tanker, about 500 meters from the shore. On board, there were 3 people performing welding and repairing damage on the deck surface.
The loud explosion threw Mr. Nguyen Thanh Thi and Do Ngoc Thong into the sea. The boat caught fire fiercely. The 2 victims were rescued by fishermen on boats anchored nearby, brought ashore and taken to the emergency room in a state of severe burns.

Mr. K (sweeper) was thrown into the sea and went missing. There were about 60 tons of oil left on the ship, so functional forces used boats, water trucks and pumps to approach the scene to fight the fire.
After extinguishing the fire, functional forces examined the scene. At the same time, they coordinated with divers to search for victims. Many fishermen rowed basket boats and cast nets, expanding the search area for missing victims.
