In 2024, Ho Chi Minh City recorded positive changes in traffic safety, with the number of traffic accident black spots significantly reduced.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, in 2024, the city had 10 accident black spots, but so far it has successfully eliminated 7 spots.
The locations to be handled include: Kinh Duong Vuong, Le Duc Tho, Huynh Tan Phat streets, the National Highway 1 – Tan Ky Tan Quy intersection, Binh Thuan intersection, the steel overpass at the Ba Thang Hai – Nguyen Tri Phuong intersection and My Thuy intersection.
The city has only 3 black spots for traffic accidents, including: the intersection of National Highway 50 - Nguyen Van Linh (Binh Chanh district), the Cong Hoa - Hoang Hoa Tham steel overpass (Tan Binh district) and the Kenh Mot Tan bridge on Vo Chi Cong street (Thu Duc city).
Besides traffic accidents, traffic congestion is still a big challenge for Ho Chi Minh City. Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has 24 traffic congestion risk points in areas such as: Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street (Binh Thanh District), Nguyen Tat Thanh (District 4), Nguyen Thi Dinh (Thu Duc City), Truong Chinh, Cong Hoa - Hoang Hoa Tham intersection (Tan Binh), Hang Xanh intersection, Pham Van Dong - Phan Van Tri intersection (Binh Thanh District), Nguyen Thai Son - Pham Ngu Lao (Go Vap District), Kenh Xang bridge on Tran Van Giau Street (Binh Chanh District), etc.
Currently, Ho Chi Minh City is managing more than 9.5 million vehicles (including more than 1 million cars and nearly 8.5 million motorbikes). Compared to the same period in 2023, the total number of vehicles under management increased by 3.10% (cars increased by 7.95%, motorbikes increased by 2.5%).
On January 10, the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Safety Committee held a ceremony to launch the Traffic Safety Year 2025 with the theme "Safe journey, building the future".
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong assessed that 2024 has seen many encouraging steps forward. Thanks to drastic solutions, people's awareness of traffic law compliance has been raised, state management has been strengthened, and traffic infrastructure has been invested in a systematic manner.
Traffic accidents decreased by an average of more than 15% in all three criteria: number of cases, number of deaths and number of injuries compared to 2023.
At the launching ceremony of Traffic Safety Year 2025, Ho Chi Minh City set a goal of continuing to reduce the number of accidents, deaths and injuries compared to 2024, while minimizing traffic jams lasting more than 30 minutes. Correct and prevent complications from arising in the situation of "illegal buses" and "illegal bus stations".
Mr. Bui Xuan Cuong emphasized that strengthening patrols and strictly handling violations will be a key task in 2025.
The authorities will focus on detecting and handling high-risk behaviors leading to traffic accidents, including: alcohol violations, speeding, not driving in the correct lane, overtaking in violation of regulations, overloading or carrying more people than allowed, etc.
