In the afternoon of March 13, showers and thunderstorms appeared in many areas of Ho Chi Minh City after a long period of hot weather. The sky turned cloudy, strong winds and thunder at times appeared. Some roads such as Tran Hung Dao, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Cach Mang Thang Tam... recorded quite heavy rain in a short time, making it difficult for people to move, especially during peak hours.
According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, monitoring satellite cloud images, weather radar and lightning positioning systems shows that convective clouds are developing and causing rain with thunderstorms and lightning in many areas in wards and communes such as Ben Thanh, Cho Quan, Binh Trung, Vinh Tan, Binh Chanh, Binh Hung, Binh Khanh and Nha Be.
In the next few hours, convective clouds are likely to continue to develop, causing showers with thunderstorms and lightning in the above areas and may spread to neighboring areas.
Common rainfall is from 5-20 mm, in some places over 20 mm. During thunderstorms, beware of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind of about level 5-7 (8-17m/s), heavy rain causes localized flooding.
