Restore green to canals
Mr. Luong Minh Phuc - Director of the HCM City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (investor) said that construction has been completed, as well as related procedures for environmental licensing to operate phase 2 of the Binh Hung Wastewater Treatment Plant from August 30.
Binh Hung wastewater treatment plant can treat 469,000m3 of wastewater per day and night, an increase of 328,000m3 compared to phase 1. This is also the plant with the largest capacity in Ho Chi Minh City at present, because another wastewater treatment plant, Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe, built in Thu Duc City, has a larger scale and is still under construction.
Binh Hung Wastewater Treatment Plant is Package J - one of 6 large construction packages of the project to Improve the water environment of Ho Chi Minh City, Tau Hu - Ben Nghe - Doi - Te canal basin (phase 2), with a total investment of nearly 11,300 billion VND from Japanese ODA loans and domestic counterpart funds. This package is implemented to collect and treat domestic wastewater for a basin of 2,530 hectares in 8 districts: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11 and Binh Chanh.
Wastewater is initially collected in the entire basin, then through the sewer system of Package G of the project, and then transported to Dong Dieu pumping station in District 8. At this station, the wastewater will be preliminarily removed of sand and trash, then pumped through a 2.8km long conveyance line to Binh Hung Plant for treatment, before being discharged into the environment. Through wastewater treatment, the plant helps reduce pollution in the basins of Tau Hu - Ben Nghe - Doi - Te canals.
According to Mr. Luong Minh Phuc, to implement the project, Ho Chi Minh City has reserved an isolated island with a total area of 42 hectares to build Binh Hung Wastewater Treatment Plant Phase 1 and 2.
Notably, Binh Hung Factory is not only a wastewater treatment facility but also planned as a "green destination" with dozens of hectares of trees, laboratories and monitoring systems.
Opening of 3 bridge and road projects
Also on August 30, Ho Chi Minh City opened the Cay Kho bridge with a total investment of 500 billion VND. The bridge spans the Ong Lon canal, is 485m long, 12.5m wide with two lanes. When put into use, the bridge helps connect the two banks from Nguyen Binh Street (Nha Be) to Pham Hung Street (Binh Chanh), shortening the distance from more than 10km to 500m because it does not have to go around. Previously, people wanting to go to the other bank had to take a boat for more than 20 minutes, or Dao Su Tich, Le Van Luong, Nguyen Huu Tho, Nguyen Van Linh, Pham Hung, Nguyen Van Rang streets. The bridge also helps reduce traffic pressure on Nguyen Huu Tho street, making it easier to travel between Nguyen Van Linh street and Hiep Phuoc Industrial Park and Hiep Phuoc port. The project to upgrade and expand Ten Lua Street (from Road 29 to Provincial Road 10) in Binh Tan District, nearly 300m long, with a total investment of 400 billion VND, has been completed and is expected to open to traffic on September 5. This project helps complete the main Ten Lua route, connecting Kinh Duong Vuong Street to Provincial Road 10, reducing traffic congestion and promoting economic development in the area.
In Thu Duc City, the Nam Ly Bridge project across Rach Chiec River has also reached 95% of the construction volume and will officially open to traffic on September 15. The Nam Ly Bridge is 750m long, of which the bridge section is 450m long, replacing the narrow and degraded Rach Chiec Dam Bridge. When completed, this project will not only eliminate the "bottleneck" on Do Xuan Hop Street but also complete the traffic network in the East of Ho Chi Minh City.
