According to Lao Dong Newspaper's records on Pham Van Dong street (Binh Loi Trung ward), construction teams are urgently drilling and surveying at many locations on the direction of Metro line No. 6. Workers are continuously operating drilling machines, taking soil and rock samples at different depths to collect geological data.
According to a representative of the construction unit, geological survey is one of the first stages but has decisive significance for the design and construction process of the metro line.
Soil and rock samples after analysis will help determine the stratigraphy structure, assess the load-bearing capacity of the soil foundation, thereby choosing appropriate technical solutions for each section of the route, especially underground and river crossing sections.
Ho Chi Minh City sets a target to start construction of Metro Line No. 6 by the end of this year and complete and put it into operation in 2030.
Metro No. 6 (Tan Son Nhat - Phu Huu) is nearly 23 km long, passing through 13 wards, including: Tan Son Nhi, Tan Binh, Tay Thanh, Tan Son, Tan Son Hoa, Duc Nhuan, Hanh Thong, Binh Loi Trung, Hiep Binh, Thu Duc, Tang Nhon Phu, Phuoc Long and Long Truong.
The project has 19 km underground and nearly 4 km elevated, with 17 stations (13 underground stations and 4 elevated stations); the depot is located in the Binh Trieu area.
Metro line No. 6 starts from Ba Queo station (ST01), near Tan Ky Tan Quy - Truong Chinh intersection, connecting with Metro line No. 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong). From here, the line goes underground to Tan Son Nhat airport, with ST02 station arranged west of T3 terminal, then continues under the aircraft parking lot to the T1 and T2 terminal areas. ST03 station is located under the parking lot between the two terminals.
Leaving the airport, the route runs along Hong Ha street, placing ST04 station near the Nguyen Thai Son - Nguyen Kiem intersection and then following Pham Van Dong avenue.
The next stations are located near the North-South railway line, Phan Van Tri and Nguyen Xi intersection, before the line goes underground across the Saigon River to reach the Thu Duc area. On Vo Nguyen Giap Avenue, ST12 station will connect with Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien).
To the Ring Road 2 area, the line gradually shifts from underground to elevated, passing through Vo Chi Cong intersection, Phu Huu bridge and Lien Phuong road. After ST16 station, the line is divided into two branches: one branch to ST17 terminal station in Phu Huu, the other branch connects to the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway line in the future.
When Ho Chi Minh City's metro network is synchronously invested, passengers from the center of Ho Chi Minh City can take Metro No. 2, switch to Metro No. 6 to enter Tan Son Nhat airport.
People in the southern area of the city can also travel by Metro No. 4 (Dong Thanh - Hiep Phuoc) and change trains right at station clusters T1, T2.
Passengers can also travel between Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh airports by urban railway.
