Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just sent a report to the Ministry of Construction on the plan to deploy urban railway lines in the period 2026 - 2030.
According to Resolution No. 09-NQ/TW of the Politburo on building and developing Ho Chi Minh City in the new era, Ho Chi Minh City is assigned the goal of completing about 200 km of urban railway by 2030.
To realize this goal, Ho Chi Minh City plans to add the Thu Dau Mot - Ho Chi Minh City Metro line to the list of priority projects to be completed in the 2026 - 2030 period, bringing the total number of metro lines expected to be completed in this period to 7.
Metro line No. 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong section) with a total investment of more than 55,000 billion VND, started construction on January 15, 2026. The line is nearly 11.3 km long, of which more than 9 km is underground. The project is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2030.
The Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro line, nearly 54 km long, was started on December 19, 2025 in the form of BOO (build - own - operate), with a total investment of more than 102,000 billion VND arranged by investors.
Specifically, compensation, support and resettlement for the project are implemented using the city budget with a budget of about 9,834 billion VND. Ho Chi Minh City is expected to hand over the entire site to the investor in November 2026. This metro line will be completed and put into operation from 2028.
Metro line No. 2 (Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem section) is about 6.2 km long, with a total investment of more than 36,700 billion VND. The project was started on April 29, 2026 in the form of BT (build - transfer) and is expected to be completed in 2030.

The Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway line will be started on June 30, 2026. This is a railway line connecting Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh international airports, with a length of about 47.7 km, of which the section through Ho Chi Minh City is 11.5 km long and the section through Dong Nai is 36.2 km long.
The project has a total estimated investment of about 175,000 billion VND, including 19 stations, including 2 underground stations and 17 elevated stations. Currently, the investor is completing the feasibility study report and related procedures to implement the project, striving to complete it in 2030.
Metro line No. 6 (Tan Son Nhat - Phu Huu section) is 22.85 km long, with a total investment of about 86,529 billion VND. The project is expected to be approved in November 2026 and started a month later, completed by the end of 2030.

The Binh Duong - Suoi Tien New City Metro line is 32.8 km long, with a total investment of about 55,000 billion VND. The project is also planned to be approved in November 2026, started in December 2026 and completed in 2030.
The Thu Dau Mot - Tao Dan Metro line is adjusted to increase in length from 21.87 km to about 35 km. The line starts from station C0 (connecting to the Binh Duong New City - Suoi Tien Metro line) and ends at Tao Dan station, where it intersects with Metro line No. 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong section).
According to the current plan, the route has about 20 km elevated with 12 stations and about 15 km underground with 12 stations. The project is expected to be approved in November 2026, started in December 2026 and completed by the end of 2030.
