Ho Chi Minh City expands Le Van Viet street to rescue traffic jams and flooding in the East

MINH QUÂN |

Ho Chi Minh City requests to speed up procedures to implement the Le Van Viet road expansion project, hoping to remove the "bottleneck" causing traffic jams and flooding in the East.

Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just issued instructions on the project to upgrade and expand Le Van Viet street (section from Hanoi Highway to La Xuan Oai street).

According to the direction, the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board is assigned to preside over and coordinate with the People's Committee of Tang Nhon Phu ward, the Cat Lai ward Construction Investment Project Management Board and related units to complete the dossier, prepare and submit for appraisal the Pre-feasibility Study Report to adjust the project according to regulations.

The People's Committee of Tang Nhon Phu ward is responsible for reviewing and supplementing the contents serving the appraisal and adjustment of investment policies, including project scale, conformity with planning, land recovery scope, compensation, support and resettlement plans, housing fund needs, resettlement land funds as well as expected land unit prices to serve compensation work.

The Cat Lai Ward Construction Investment Project Management Board coordinates to review all dossiers and documents related to the project implementation process from the time the investment policy was approved to date. At the same time, units must report on implementation results, disbursement situation, arising difficulties and obstacles and assess the reasons why the project is prolonged, increasing the total investment.

The city also requested to clarify the responsibilities of relevant agencies, units and individuals in the preparation, appraisal, approval and organization of project implementation; and at the same time, propose remedial solutions to soon put the project into implementation.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requests agencies and units assigned tasks to urgently implement and send the results to the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board for summarization and completion of dossiers to submit to competent authorities for consideration and decision according to regulations.

Le Van Viet Street is one of the key traffic routes connecting the eastern gateway area of Ho Chi Minh City.

Currently, the starting section from Hanoi Highway (Thu Duc intersection area) to Tran Hung Dao street, more than 130 m long, has been expanded to about 30 m with 6 lanes.

However, the section from Tran Hung Dao street extending to La Xuan Oai street, nearly 1.5 km long, is still only about 8 m wide, creating traffic congestion on the entire route.

During rush hours, high traffic volume causes frequent congestion in this area. The narrow road surface forms a "bottleneck", causing difficulties for people's travel. In addition, the road is also frequently flooded when heavy rain appears.

Previously, the Le Van Viet road expansion project was approved for investment policy in the period 2016 - 2020. However, due to problems with capital sources to serve compensation and site clearance, the project could not be implemented. After that, the project was removed from the list of public investment in the period 2021 - 2025.
