This is a solution expected to form a continuous traffic axis from National Highway 13 (Thu Duc City) to Dien Bien Phu Avenue (Binh Thanh District), helping to reduce traffic pressure for this crowded area.
Every morning at peak times, National Highway 13 (Thu Duc City), Binh Trieu Bridge, Dinh Bo Linh (Binh Thanh District) are always in a state of serious traffic jams as vehicles pile up to the center of Ho Chi Minh City.
In the evening, traffic jams recurred on Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street, the one-way section from Hang Xanh intersection to Dai Liet Si intersection (Binh Thanh District).
These three routes are currently important traffic axes connecting the center of Ho Chi Minh City with Thu Duc City, Binh Duong Province. However, the road infrastructure has not met the demand.
National Highway 13 is only 19 - 26m wide, Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street is 16 - 22m wide and Dinh Bo Linh Street is 21m wide. With high population density and high traffic demand, these routes are often overloaded, especially during rush hour.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport is researching upgrading National Highway 13 under the BOT (build-operate-transfer) model.
According to the pre-feasibility report, National Highway 13, nearly 6km long (from Binh Trieu bridge to Binh Duong border), is proposed to be expanded in combination with the construction of a 3.7km long elevated road from Binh Trieu intersection to Binh Phuoc intersection.
4-lane elevated road, 3-lane parallel road below each side. Build two-way underpass at the intersection of Binh Loi and Binh Phuoc bridges.
The total investment capital of the project is nearly 20,000 billion VND, of which the cost of site clearance is more than 14,500 billion VND.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has also proposed prioritizing the expansion of the Dinh Bo Linh and Xo Viet Nghe Tinh routes from now until 2030.
Of which, Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street is 2km long, from Hang Xanh to the foot of Binh Trieu Bridge (including a section of National Highway 13 through Mien Dong Bus Station), the road surface is widened to 30m. The Martyrs' Monument intersection is built according to the roundabout and underpass plan. The total investment capital of the project is about 7,000 billion VND.
Dinh Bo Linh Street is more than 2km long, from Pham Van Dong intersection to Dien Bien Phu, the road surface is widened to 25m. New Binh Trieu Bridge is built with a scale of 6 lanes. The total investment capital of the project is about 2,900 billion VND.
In addition to upgrading to the planned width, these two routes are also being studied to be converted into elevated roads to synchronize with the National Highway 13 upgrade project.
The construction of elevated roads at Dinh Bo Linh and Xo Viet Nghe Tinh is considered necessary to reduce the load on these routes, especially when National Highway 13 is upgraded, which will attract a large amount of traffic to the area.
The elevated road system from National Highway 13 connecting to Dien Bien Phu Avenue will form a modern traffic axis, effectively reducing traffic congestion at the northeastern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City.
