After the fire caused damage to more than 5 hectares of coastal protection casuarina forest, the People's Committee of Mo Cay commune is coordinating with functional agencies to urgently investigate the cause, track down related subjects; and at the same time implement many solutions to strengthen management, protection of forests and forest fire prevention and fighting in the area.

According to the People's Committee of Mo Cay commune, the fire occurred on June 7 in the coastal protection forest area of sub-area 304 in hamlet 4 and sub-area 306 in Minh Tan Bac hamlet. Although the fire was controlled and extinguished in time by functional forces and people, it still caused damage of about 5.2ha of casuarina forest.
Through initial inspection, most of the vegetation under the forest canopy was completely burned; many casuarina trees were charred, withered leaves and at risk of death, affecting the coastal protection function, ecological environment and forest management and protection of the locality.
Currently, the cause of the fire is being investigated and clarified by functional agencies. To serve the verification work, the People's Committee of Mo Cay commune requests organizations and individuals if they have information related to the fire or detect suspicious acts of using fire illegally in the coastal protection forest area to promptly provide to local authorities and functional forces. All information provided by the provider will be kept confidential according to the provisions of law.
Along with searching for the fire-causers, the People's Committee of Mo Cay commune issued a notice strictly prohibiting people from arbitrarily entering coastal protection forest areas in Minh Tan Bac, Minh Tan Nam, hamlet 4, Dam Thuy Bac, Dam Thuy Nam, Luong Nong Bac and Luong Nong Nam villages until further notice.
The locality also strictly prohibits acts of burning fires, treating vegetation with fire, using heat sources inside and along forests that are likely to cause fire; deforestation, illegal logging, encroachment on forestry land, illegal mineral exploitation and acts of encroaching on forest resources in all forms.
To strengthen management and protection of forests, the Commune People's Committee assigned the Commune Police to take the lead in ensuring security and order in the burned forest area; strengthen patrols and inspections, prevent people from arbitrarily entering the scene and coordinate to investigate the cause of the incident. Local forest rangers are assigned to inspect the scene, determine the extent of damage, strengthen patrols in key areas at high risk of fire and advise on strict handling of violations of forestry law.
