Information from the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board (MRB) said that Station S1 (Quan Ngua Station) is under construction (starting on July 23), expanding the construction scope on urban railway line No. 5, Van Cao - Hoa Lac (metro No. 5).
The implementation of this item shows that the project is entering the synchronous construction phase of key items, creating more motivation for the progress of the entire route.
S1 station is built in the southern area of Hoang Hoa Tham - Van Cao intersection, is the first station of metro line No. 5. Not only is it the starting point of the line, S1 Station is also planned as an important transshipment station in the future, connecting with metro line No. 2, contributing to the formation of an interconnected public transport network of the Capital.
The station is built underground using the cut-and-cover method, using a 1m thick fence system combined with 4 layers of support, including steel and concrete support, to ensure the stability of the excavation pit throughout the construction process.
As one of the stations located in existing urban areas with high population density, the construction of S1 Station sets out special requirements for technical safety and minimizing impacts on the surrounding environment.
According to MRB, the station is located near Hoang Hoa Tham overpass, the distance from the excavated pit to the bridge foundation is only about 5.5m. Therefore, the project applies level I deformation protection for foundation pits - the highest level according to technical standards, along with many modern foundation reinforcement and waterproofing solutions to ensure absolute safety for existing works throughout the construction process.
In addition to the fence system and multi-layered reinforcement structure, foundation reinforcement solutions using cement piles (CDM), weak soil foundation treatment and automatic monitoring systems are synchronously deployed to continuously monitor subsidence, positioning and technical parameters of the construction area.
According to MRB, the deployment of Station S1 continues the items that have been implemented at Station S3 in the past, showing the determination of the investor and the contractor consortium in bringing the metro line No. 5 project to a synchronous construction phase with many deployment teams simultaneously.
MRB assesses that the deployment of S1 Station is not only a milestone in progress but also creates a foundation for gradually forming an urban railway line connecting the western area with the center of Hanoi, contributing to improving the capacity of public passenger transport, reducing traffic congestion and promoting urban development in the direction of public transport (TOD).
We will continue to closely coordinate with consulting units, contractors and functional agencies to ensure that the project is implemented on schedule, safely, with quality, minimizing impacts on people and existing works. At the same time, the unit will regularly provide information to people and press agencies throughout the implementation process," said the MRB representative.
