On February 1, the Traffic Police Department of Quang Binh province said that the large number of vehicles caused a traffic jam of about 500m on National Highway 1, passing Gianh Bridge in the North-South direction.
Quang Binh Province Traffic Police Department informed that the congestion occurred from 11am on the same day. The reason was that at Gianh Bridge, two lanes merged, making it difficult for vehicles to move.
Currently, there are 10 officers and soldiers, including 6 teams from the Traffic Police Department, Quang Binh Provincial Police, Bac Trach Commune Police (Bo Trach District) and Ba Don Town Police, present at the scene to coordinate traffic, ensure order and safety for vehicles traveling through this area.
Before Tet, traffic congestion also occurred continuously at Gianh Bridge in the South-North direction.
Gianh Bridge is located on National Highway 1, through Quang Binh, and is a "bottleneck" in the North-South traffic system, especially in the North Central region.
National Highway 1 has been upgraded to 4 lanes, but the two ends of Gianh Bridge and its surface only have 2 lanes. Vehicles traveling on 2 lanes at the same time sometimes cause traffic safety risks and congestion.
The Ministry of Transport has approved the Gianh Bridge construction project starting at Km624+799 in Ba Don town and ending at Km626+901 in Ha Trach commune, Bo Trach district. The bridge is nearly 750m long.
The project road section is designed with a roadbed width of 20.5m, including 4 lanes for motor vehicles. The new bridge is 12m wide, including 2 lanes for motor vehicles and 2 lanes for non-motor vehicles. This modern design ensures the ability to serve future traffic.
Currently, Gianh Bridge is carrying out bored pile construction. It is expected that after the Lunar New Year holiday, the Project Management Board will mobilize maximum manpower and equipment for 4 construction points of the pedestal, pier body and cantilever.
